"a must-have attraction during your stay in SF. The queue to enter is about 30 minutes at the beginning and there are a lot of people in May. The Cable Car ride is amazing, the driver who looks like Samuel L. Jackson is very communicative and creates an interesting atmosphere;) I recommend it, I will definitely come back here and ride again;)"
"While in San Francisco we stayed right on the cable car line close to the turnaround by the wharf. The cable cars are amazingly well maintained for being close to 150 years old. You can see Alcatraz coming down the hill to the turnaround. The bells and the clack of the car on the rails , watching people enjoy the history was very cool. The San Francisco cable car turnaround. Cable cars have no reverse causing them to manually be turned around. A staple adventure in San Francisco !"
"On a day trip to San Francisco, my brother & I tried a trip on a cable car. It was exciting to see up close different views of San Francisco at night. You will be amazed how the cable car runs on the cable in the ground. I still wonder if it isn't magic! Don't hesitate to jump on. No need to buy a ticket ahead of time. The conductor accepts cash. Enjoy!"
"Rode the cable cars twice during recent vacation in SF. I cannot describe how huge of a difference your experience will be if you ride on the “outside” of the cars (hanging onto the poles -which isn’t as dangerous as it might seem), versus sitting inside the car. On our first ride, we were sitting inside and although we enjoyed the experience, it was nothing compared to the folllowing day’s ride when we were hanging from the outside! Hanging onto the poles on the outside is incredible, it’s not about speed or danger (it is neither particularly speedy nor dangerous), but a totally unique experience that you will never forget. The operator will sometimes tell you “lean in at this corner” or “brace yourself for the stop” and it really makes you feel part of something special. The cable car staff and operators are really fantastic, one in particular was really friendly towards us and gave us a great tip, I wish I knew his name so I could shout out a special “thank you” to him! We had a Clipper Card (local transit card) that was $50 for 7 days local transit and this includes unlimited cable car rides -well worth it if you plan on using transit during your visit to the city. Regular cable car fare is $8. Lineups can be very long… definitely try to get there super early, or alternatively get on along the route."
