Reviews of Chaplin Keaton Lloyd Alley
"[update: so disappointed that the adjoining business has installed a gate closing off the public alley and is keeping it locked 24/7, in violation of the law. This is not a private patio, it is public space. Free Chaplin Keaton Lloyd Alley!] The built environment of Hollywood has changed radically over the past decade, with huge developments springing up all around the Boulevard. What a joy it is to be able to visit a spot that is so drenched in early cinema stardust, and essentially just as it was when the industry was new. Thanks to the research of silent locations sleuth John Bengtson, we can see the layers of yesterday at Chaplin Keaton Lloyd Alley (and don't forget Lois Weber!). -Kim Cooper, Esotouric tours (we sometimes host silent film history locations tours with John Bengtson, who recognized the significance of this location)"
"A must-stop for fans of early comedy. I made a pilgrimage from New York to stand at the spot where Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton and Harold Lloyd shot some of their most iconic scenes!"
"Old Hollywood Remains Facebook page highly recommends film fans and historians alike take note of this important historic location rediscovered by silent film locations expert John Bengtson. A Must See for all. Make it part of a tour of old Hollywood!"
"Tucked into a small alleyway just off Hollywood Boulevard is a laneway of monumental significance, if you happen to be a silent film fan. Perhaps most recognisable from its appearance in Buster Keaton's 'Cops', it has played a part in myriad other silent films, perhaps most notably Charlie Chaplin's 'The Kid'. It's well worth making a detour off the main drag to have a look. Though it has changed somewhat since this photo was taken in 2012, it's still a thrill to walk in the footsteps of the three greats of silent film comedy."
"Historic place for all the classic comedy fans around the globe! The significance of this alley was discovered by the dedicated works by John Bengston. I traveled all the way from JAPAN just to visit this spot, and it was totally worth it! Such sacred place where Keaton, Chaplin, Lloyd and many other silent stars shot their masterpieces. It should be more recognized as the landmark of Hollywood history. Highly recommended."
