About the Franklin D. Murphy Sculpture Garden
The Franklin D. Murphy Sculpture Garden, located at 245 Charles E Young Drive East in Los Angeles, California, is a renowned outdoor sculpture installation spanning over five acres of UCLA's campus. With over 70 sculptures by artists such as Hans Arp, Deborah Butterfield, Alexander Calder, and more, the garden is one of the most distinguished in the country. Established in 1967 by UCLA's third chancellor, Franklin D. Murphy, the garden was designed to create an educational and inspiring environment for visitors to enjoy art as part of everyday life.
The garden features a mix of figural and abstract works that complement the landscape, creating a harmonious setting for study and contemplation. Visitors can relax in informal seating areas and open lawns, taking in the interplay of art and nature. The garden is divided into three distinctive areas, including a formal plaza, a walkway lined with South African coral trees, and an informal sloping lawn with textured pathways.
To schedule a tour of the Sculpture Garden, visitors can contact the Academic Programs department at (310) 443-7041. Parking is available in Parking Structure 3, and directions to the garden can be found on the UCLA website. The garden is a must-see tourist attraction for art enthusiasts and nature lovers alike, offering a unique blend of sculpture and Southern California flora in a beautiful park-like setting on the UCLA campus.

Reviews of Franklin D. Murphy Sculpture Garden
"one of my favorite spots on campus!"
"My favorite spot on the UCLA campus! I wanted my 9 year old grandson to fall in love with UCLA, so I drove around the campus after dark on New Years Day.. He wasn't especially interested until we parked (illegally) in the bus turn around and walked over to the Garden. As soon as he saw it he excitedly ran toward it and started exploring. A few people and a couple of dogs were slso enjoying the Garden at night. One of the dogs was joyously running around off leash. Unfortunately we couldn't stay very long due to the parking situation, but I plan to return the next time he visits. Until then my grandson got a taste of the magic of the Sculpture Garden under the stars."
"A fascinating mix of artistic expression. While some sculptures are inspiring, some left me perplexed. I noticed some pieces are impressively detailed."
"Absolutely wonderful place to spend some time with arts in open air. There are a few dozens of sculptures of different sizes, styles and materials in this little park, and it was a pleasant and exciting experience to walk about and get to know each of them. What I appreciate the garden the most is that somehow the sculptures are nicely integrated in the space, some in the lawn, some in a fountain, some stand alone. It gives me a sense that everything can be art and art is everywhere."
"Very nice and peaceful green area to enjoy many different styles of sculptures. Lots of nooks to sit in shaded areas, ideal to rest, read, meditate or just relax and maybe enjoy a conversation with a friend"
