"Hvac program underfunded constantly changing teachers going from four days a week hands on to two. Paying tens of thousands to watch YouTube videos at home on what can be considered the most valuable mod( refrigeration)."
"I took an HR online course, which took 1½ years, and not only was it very informative, but I was also helped by administrative staff through email/call whenever I needed help. At the end of my courses, Ms. Anai Martinez emailed me and told me she was going to guide me through my exit interview while helping me find jobs that suited my career path. She called me almost every day to tell me that there were positions available and that she had already sent my resume out to the company while I waited for a response or she would call back ASAP. I've had extra preparation with Anai, and she helped me build my confidence before going into my first big girl job in the corporate world. If you are thinking about joining SJVC and need guiding through your hiring process, Anai is the right fit for you! Edit: Anai was let go, and unfortunately, I don't agree with why they did. IF you do plan to go here and succeed with your education, then you must be patient with interviews and jobs that are "hiring" but not hiring but are hiring. And if you manage to get Kim Soares as your hiring advisor, I suggest you keep looking for jobs on your own since she manages to leave you hanging."
"This is the most honest and truthful review you will read and long overdue. SJVC Bakersfield campus is a joke. It is being run by incompetent management getting paid high salaries and driving fancy cars. The Campus President, Dean of Students, and DMS Program Director are NOT credentialed or qualified to do the job, look them up. The campus had management staff vacancies and SJVC upper management picked her "unqualified teacher's pets" and put them in those administration spots, without prior experience, it's just a circus act! The Regional VP is the biggest joke of all, the puppet master. Management does not pass on student concerns, they are swept under the rug. The DMS PD gossips about the students while in class (students hear her), she is very scatterbrained, and unorganized, a liar to students and management; is not a good teacher (lazy lessons are PowerPoint handouts), she also tells her salary to the students (bragging), this is how lame and unprofessional she is. The students in the program dislike it and are worried about their future in this career choice that they are not equipped with needed knowledge. This place takes your money and gives you SUB-PAR education. The student dress code is stupid and old-fashioned, they do not allow ANY smart watch wearing (in today's world everyone wears Apple watches) OR allow the use of electronic devices to take class notes, so dumb and makes no sense. Those are just some of the ridiculous rules that only apply to students. Save your money and juvenile game-playing headaches this place gives you and go to a real school not run by armatures! "Do not, DO NOT pick this school as your first choice. Very unprofessional, unstable, and just plain rude and condescending! I started the Medical Assisting Program in June 2022. When I enrolled I was told that the program would last 9 months including the externship which takes 6 weeks. Upon completion I was told I would be graduating , as in having a ceremony, in March of 2023. Come February I ask the new dean of students, the rude condescending wanna be Barbie doll, when our graduation will be and she says that whoever told me the graduation would be on march lied to me and she informed me that it would be in April. So fast forward and one of my former classmates invited me to a gathering where graduates will be making diy caps for graduation that’s supposed to take place in April. I arrive to the gathering and as I’m making my cap pieces I’m told that I didn’t make the cut for this graduation ceremony and I won’t be having a ceremony until OCTOBER !? Why would I spend $21,000 to wait 7 months after I’ve completed my required courses to celebrate my hard work! It’s very unfathomable. A school that profits off the student body, lacks the supplies necessary, lacks the staff because my instructors didn’t show up about 70% of the time and seriously they “can’t afford” to have more than 2 ceremonies a year ? This school Is a scam. I highly recommend that you look elsewhere like unitek or high desert. If you do apply here prepare yourself for instructors that don’t care about their students, staff that only care about having a good time opposed to helping students out and unprofessionalism on every level of this sjvc community. I will not be attending this ceremony I will have worked as a medical assistant 8 months by the time I get to celebrate my accomplishments. No thank you! I will celebrate on my own with the people that actually care about me and my future. These people only care about their pockets and their own amusement. If I could give zero stars I would !"
"This school is highly unaffordable with programs that are offered at Bakersfield College. They try to make it sound like it's worth the money just because the classes are so smaller and more "hands on". They couldn't keep any good instructors hired while I attended this school either they quit or get fired. Don't waste time or money getting stuck at this college. Sadly to say they’re very unprofessional."
