Reviews of County of Santa Barbara: Santa Maria Animal Shelter
"I have been looking for a new forever friend and I was always hesitant to come to the Santa Barbara animal shelter because I was afraid I would fall in love with and puppy that might potentially be euthanized. I was extremely happy to find out that they do everything in their power to keep a dog or pet and assist in correct behavior so that they can be rehomed. I learned they have a few dogs that they've had for over a year that are still waiting on there forever home. As I learned about this I happened to find a stray I was not able to take back to my house and I was willing to bring that stray to this facility. I visited back 3 days later and found out that the stray was actually returned To its owner I felt glad that I didn't have to worry about it getting hit by a car as where I found it was close to very busy streets. They also offer a foster program which allows you to foster dogs and they also allow a 30 day return so that you can make certain that both you and the dog you are looking to adopt mesh. They focus on making certain it's good decisions for both you and the pet that you are attempting to adopt. I am now a volunteer working to assist with the dogs in helping them with socialization and walks and will be doing additional assistance for the facility to help out. I am sure I will find my forever friend but in the meantime I like knowing that I am making a difference in helping! Consider doing something like this if you love animals but are not in a position to have one at your own home currently!"
"Super smooth process and a great price. Paid $70 for my little girl to get fixed. They even listed information regarding her allergy (we already are working with a vet on it) but I was impressed that they mentioned it. My dog is acting very normal and happy, everything went really well!"
"Everybody there was very nice to me and helped me find an animal that could bond with me. I recently adopted a cat but years ago I adopted a dog that was bonding with me as soon as I got near him. It was his last day if you know what I mean. Both animals are very important to me."
"Kevin and Vicky are absolutely amazing. As for Josilin or whatever the name is of the huge woman that manages the shelter, is trash. I volunteered there so many times, have fostered dogs/ advocated for them and even Foster Failed a dog, everyone is friendly besides her. The reason why there are too many animals and not enough workers/ volunteers is most likely because of her. She has Zero people skills and her emotions are often unpredictable. Today I went to foster a dog and I was denied because of the other dogs I’ve had THE ENTIRE TIME. They have more dogs there than they are allowed and it’s most likely because of her, I never had an issue with anyone else."
"Had a semi bad experience here offering to foster. I filled out all the paperwork and even signed the waiver and expected the pure professionalism from the staff. When I picked out the dog to foster I was instantly pressured to adopt the dog when I only offered to help take a dog out of the shelter for a couple weeks. They tried making me feel guilty and I should’ve taken that as the first red flag. I was not warned of any health concerns for the dog. Two days after taking the dog home I was told by one of the staff that the dog had parvo and just got out of quarantine 3 days prior to me taking her home. I was instantly upset due to having other animals in the household and it seemed that the dog was still having symptoms but when I asked at the shelter nobody said anything, just told me that the dog had anxiety. To top it off I went in feeling like I was doing a good thing for an animal but they made it feel like they were doing me a favor instead. I expected a smooth process but the workers here are very unorganized."
