"I was seen by Dr. Bouvet in August of 2022 for an adrenalectomy consultation due to severe symptoms of an adrenal adenoma. Immediately upon entering the room, this man ordered me to "lift my shirt and show my belly" and went into a complete spiral of how I'd need to lose 70+lbs and both go on a liquid diet for months and consult his "buddies" (a nutritionist and gastric bypass surgeon) in order for him to even consider doing surgery on me. I was also asked what my "ideal weight" was, was demonstrated how they'd have to "slice me open" across my entire abdomen (untrue, I ended up with four small laparoscopic cuts) and was told that my symptoms weren't "that severe" despite multiple ER visits with life threateningly low levels of potassium and no success with medication management of my symptoms. I ended up leaving the appointment furious and in tears after being absolutely weight shamed (I wear a men's XL at most, not that that should matter) and treated like my symptoms didn't matter at all. Due to this, I had to battle my insurance and find a new surgeon in LA (only allowed after months of fighting) and ended up hospitalized for over a week during the holidays due to a dangerous hypertensive crisis, all of which could have been avoided if I had been provided tumor removal in a timely manner."
