Reviews of Western Veterinary Center, Medical & Surgical Hospital
"AVOID THIS MONEY TRAP - We needed to bring out cat in for an emergency visit. Long story short - an uncaring staff admitted out pet, didn't allow us to see it, and then starting sending us credit authorizations for more and more expensive tests and procedures. No questions were answered or concerns addressed. We were basically told - pay $10,000 and pick him up tomorrow. After overcoming their delays and sales pressure, we were able to get our cat back and take him to our usual vet - who showed that the Western Vets diagnosis was WRONG! and the expensive and potentially dangerous procedure was totally unnecessary. Our pet was soon released healthy and at a reasonable cost. Western Vet is a HEARTLESS, EXPLOITATIVE, SHAKE DOWN."
"This past weekend our 7 year old lab mix was acting strangely. Whining and not eating, or playing with her beloved ball. At 3 a.m. we took her into emergency at VSEC in Thousand Oaks as Western said they had a three hour wait. The vet at VSEC couldn't diagnose her well as they didn't have the right equipment but we knew it was quite serious and she sent us right to Western as they had the equipment. We got there and after a little confusion she was admitted and saw the vet, at that point there was no wait. Long story short, after a long confusing night into morning, it was determined that she had cancer that would not have a good outcome even with surgery. Our vet concurred over the phone. We all decided that we would have to say our goodbyes. The vet and vet tech were extremely compassionate. Left us with her for a long time in a comfortable "living room" feeling waiting room where we were able to hang out for a bit with her. We stayed til the end of course and I wanted the staff to know how much we appreciated their compassion for our Chloe. It was very difficult and shocking to us as it was so sudden. But, I thank them for all the did, as well as their honesty about the timing and her prognosis."
"Our dog was attacked by a coyote. We showed up with him in the middle of the night, not knowing if he would survive. Everyone at Western took the best care of him. He's doing great!"
"Wish we could say we were happy with the doctor here, Rick Garcia. Unfortunately, he seemed a bit detached and like he didn't really care. He recited the medical books very well, but he barely looked at our dog. We went in for a surgery consultation for her tail. He did not check her tail once. He spent maybe 10 minutes total with us (his personal cell phone rang and then he excused himself, said he'd be back, and didn't come back). His vet tech, Grace, was good on the other hand. She listened more to our concerns. The surgery consultation cost $150...but we barely saw the doctor. When he sent us the estimated cost of surgery, it was more than double the price of what other surgeons are charging. He seems a bit too money hungry. At least show more compassion and care for the animal you're going to perform surgery on. And please inspect the body part that would undergo surgery..."
"They are the very best ! Staff was so kind to us and to our Pet. Doctor was knowledgeable and answered all our answers regarding our pet’s condition. He is better Now! The place is stunning!"
