"If I could give ZERO stars I would. If you care about your pet then don't go here. All they care about is the "transaction" and will do anything to run up the bill. And the best part is when you really need to bring your pet in for something they will call and cancel your appt and say they're too busy, even when you pay for their service. If you want to throw away your money and disregard your pet's wellbeing then by all means go here. Otherwise, I suggest you stay far away from them and Banfield. They rather leave early then help a pet in pain and in need."
"TLDR: Banfield changed the medical records of our pet, specifically deleting information that was directly pertinent to a negligence lawsuit. Be careful. Full: Earlier this year, we took our dog, Rohan, in for a teeth cleaning. When we picked him up, Banfield told us that Rohan experienced heart complications during his anesthesia. The records they gave us from that day made no mention to heart complications, so we had to demand the medical summary report which actually reflected this information. When we reviewed the notes, Banfield indicated they gave Rohan MORE anesthesia then they did back in 2021 when he got fixed. It was only then where we discovered Rohan experienced heart complications back in 2021, also due to anesthesia. We discovered this not through Banfield, but on our own, after digging through medical records for hours, because we were concerned with the way things were handled after the teeth cleaning this year. We later told a judge, under oath and on the record, during a legal court proceeding (which is a public record): * Banfield never informed us what happened in 2021; Banfield did not refute this fact. * Banfield tried to physically take the medical summary report of 2023 from us, and replace it with a different one. Banfield did not refute this fact. * Banfield DELETED the part of the 2023 report that said they gave him MORE anesthesia than what had already caused him a heart abnormality back in 2021. This was shown in court with hard evidence. We still have the hard copies of both reports: the first one they gave us, and the redacted one they tried to swap out the first one with. Ultimately, the judge took the case under review because we didn’t have an expert to testify that Banfield’s conduct fell below the standard of care. The judge later mailed us the decision in favor of Banfield. Unfortunately, the judge provided no further opinion or rationale for her decision. While this is disappointing, that is not the main purpose of this post. The main purpose of this post is to help explain the practical effect of this decision: Banfield legally changed the medical records of their client in Orange County, deleting information in that was directly pertinent to a negligence lawsuit. Here are the implications: if you take your loved one to a place like Banfield; and if Banfield makes a mistake; or something goes wrong with your pet’s health… Banfield could delete, tamper with, erase, modify, change, alter those medical records, or even fail to inform you of medically alarming or pertinent information… and you might not be able to hold them responsible. When we asked the court to compensate us for the cost of alternative insurance, knowing we still had 5 or 6 months left on the Banfield “wellness” contract and wanted other options, Banfield was even so arrogant to include, in our total wellness expenses, the cost of Rohan’s teeth cleaning this year. If we had knowledge of Rohan’s anesthesia-related complications in 2021, we would have never moved forward with that teeth cleaning… because the benefit of a teeth cleaning is far outweighed by the risks associated with heart complications. But Banfield and only Banfield made that determination, without our involvement. And it was Dr. Mallory Wong of Banfield, whose veterinary judgment was to give Rohan MORE anesthesia (for an elective procedure) than what had already caused him heart abnormalities two years ago… What was the outcome? Rohan suffered another heart complication this year. The most reasonably foreseeable outcome. Because of all this, we have paid thousands to visit a vet cardiologist, so they could tell us they agree they wouldn’t have put Rohan under anesthesia for an elective procedure, knowing his history from 2021. So please be careful. I understand Banfield generally appears to be the more cost-efficient option. But it will cost you far more in the end if your pet suffers a health complication while treating with Banfield, and that condition goes unreported or concealed."
"I have been going to this Banfield for years. I have a dog that I care a lot about, and I went to a few different local vets in the Irvine/OC area before discovering this Banfield. The people here have always treated my dog with an extra level of care when compared to other primary care vets. I have seen a few different doctors here, and received an excellent amount of care and compassion from all of them. Thank you for seeing my dogs!"
"I understand that Banfield Hospital is a great place to take your pet for medical care, but their service to people is abysmal. It took them 45 minutes to complete the paperwork and deliver my puppy to me, when they had called me three hours earlier. I expect much better customer service than this in the future."
"Great care for our dog consistently by Dr Graham. Good visit notes and recommendations for followup when necessary. I am surprised by complaints of some other reviewers about “upselling” by staff. Everything they have ever recommended made sense for my dog. Sometimes I go for it sometimes not, but no high pressure here. I have no complaints about their business development activities."
