"This place is absolutely horrible. Complete garbage. My dog was pouring blood after her stitches popped. Like I mean it looked like a soda fountain but with blood by her belly. I rushed over and carried her in with a bloody towel. The receptionist asked if I had an appointment?? I thought this was ER? I ended up filling out paperwork - and we waited. After 30 minutes my dog got restless and started moving which triggered the outpouring of blood once more ALL over their floor. I kid you not, the employees all stepped around it for 10 minutes until on of them came out and was like “There’s blood all over the floor…” Man at reception “We’re on it.” (they were in fact not, as they giggled away at whatever small talk they were laughing at as my dog lay in a pool of her own blood). Over an hour passes and my dog is still laying on the floor - dried blood caked on her abdomen and leg. I asked the receptionist what the hold up is, triage doesn’t take over an hr - as everyone else has gone in. She says “Because your baby is stable and actually it does sometimes take that long.” At this point my dog is shaking and sleep but I am worried about the amount of blood loss. I take her to another hospital and leave. Waited from 9:50-11:05 with no help or communication. the next place says she needs immediate major surgery (possibly, we’re working on other remedies) :( I would not recommend Access for severe or urgent medical emergencies. Pic of towel I was carrying her with to understand the gravity of the situation and how lax they were."
"Dr. Schachterle and her team, Karla and Myra, in the exotic department are the absolute best and consistently go above and beyond for me and my senior rabbit Norman. The level of care, communication, and compassion exceed my expectations every time. We absolutely adore Dr. Schachterle and are so grateful to have such an experienced and caring team while going through all of Norman’s various challenges, emergencies, and surgeries. I would also highly recommend ACCESS 24/7 emergency services, which I’ve used for my rabbit as well as my dog over the years. Will never go anywhere else!"
"This 'hospital' should not exist. As other reviews suggest, this place is all about taking your money and giving you false hopes. They will guilt you into paying for procedures you can't afford...and that will not improve the actual health of your pet. They will send you home with high hopes only to have another Dr tell you the next day that their condition is dire...and they should've been euthanased instead of being sent home in severe pain. My bill was about 5 grand and we had our love for 2 extra days..."
"We’ve had a rough year. First my favorite turtle was found half drowned at the bottom of the pond. We thought she was already gone. My gf and I brought her to access and turns out she was eggbound and too weak to swim. She was able to get antibiotics and have the eggs induced and she is doing great now. Then one of our desert tortoises took mysteriously ill. We called but access didn’t have an exotic vet on staff that night. So we took him to Irvine. We were there for hours and paid a ton of money only to have them send us home w no answer and a very sick animal. My gf took him to access the next day. He was hospitalized for tests and it was determined he was experiencing multiple organ failure. She made the difficult decision to let him go. Then just last week, our bearded dragon Matilda had a massive seizure out of nowhere. My gf rushed her to access with very little hope considering her condition. But after 1 night there and meds for parasites and antibiotics, she’s doing amazing and is back to her old self. This place cannot work miracles. They can’t save every pet. But we have found them competent and my gf is comfortable bringing our reptiles here. She is schooled as a vet tech and trusts what these vets are telling her. It is not cheap, no exotic vet especially for ER would be — but we have a CareCredit for exactly situations like these. It’s very hard to find someone who really knows what they are doing when it comes to reptiles. It’s also hard to find someone who understands the particular bond we have with our scaley babies. We will continue to bring our reptiles here for emergency care. I just hope we don’t have to come back for a while!"
"I'm going through the most stressful period with a sick bunny, and I don't know how I'd have gotten through it without the reassurance and help from the staff at Access. They’ve gone above and beyond to ensure I have the best care for my sick bunny, including exceptional communication with my usual primary care provider. The reviews on Yelp left me really anxious, but I had no reason to worry. I couldn't have asked for better care. I know that reviews are biased. When someone is very unhappy, they’ll go write a bad review, I work in an industry with customer service elements, so I understand the bias, but it is still scary as hell seeing a 3 star review on a hospital I rely on to save my baby’s life. My little baby bun Pudding developed a sudden and severe head tilt a week ago. He had never been that sick before, and I was in sheer panic. The people at Access, in particular, nurse Karla and Dr. Schachterly, were spectacular. They reassured me that my bun was stable, kept me updated and informed. Dr. Schachterly spent 20 minutes on the phone explaining things to me so I could clearly understand what was going on with him. I can't even get a human doctor to spend that much time with me at my own doctor's appointment. I couldn't have asked for a more attentive vet for my baby. Karla, who is, by the way, spectacular at reading an entire page of diagnosis upside down, was kind and helpful. All the charges were explained, the labs and medication, and what to expect. They were excellent at communicating the lab results to my usual vet as well. When I went to my normal vet this morning, the labs had already been sent to them, and I got a call from the dr to explain additional lab results and what they meant The bill was entirely reasonable. I've heard horror stories about LA vets and was dreading it, but it was considerably less than what I expected, and nothing was unnecessary. I'd have paid anything to help my baby, but it was so nice to not have to spend a fortune, as I'd feared. Again, THANK YOU. Pudding is recovering slowly, it will be a long road, but the first day of his illness was made considerably less stressful knowing he was in good hands with the team at Access. Even afterwards, the doctor called me, patiently listened to me, and updated me with the latest results of tests and just to check in on him. I couldn't be more grateful. Whatever happens to Pudding after this, I am reassured knowing that I did the best I could for him, including provided him with the best care, and I am certain I wouldn’t feel that way without the support of the team at Access. I am so grateful."
