Reviews of Ace Fencing Academy
"If you're looking for exceptional instruction from amazing coaches and a welcoming community, look no further than Ace Fencing Academy! Coach Jason and Coach Sue foster such a wonderful environment where every fencer is inspired to perform their best; they combine clear instruction with a genuine care and interest in each of their students' successes. I have been coming to Ace for years and it has been incredible to see how the club has grown and continues to harbor such a spirit of kindness and camaraderie that I have found nowhere else. It's truly a gem here in the valley. Fencing at Ace is an unparalleled opportunity to learn from the best, grow alongside peers of all ages both athletically and personally, and to make new friends while you're at it!"
"Very happy with Ace Fencing. Looked for a sport for several years that my son would like. Coach Sue and Coach Jason are fantastic with children and adults. They don't only teach fencing, but also life skills. There is a heavy emphasis placed on responsibility and doing things correctly. They care about their students."
"Ace Fencing Academy, though a young club, is filled with dynamic people, a caring and supportive community of enthusiasts, and led by two excellent coaches with decades of experience coaching the sport. I began fencing with Jason at age fourteen in 2010 around the time I won my "E" rating. I quickly began taking private lessons with Jason which catapulted my ability to new heights. Jason is an excellent communicator who offers clear and concise directions to students and excels at working with students of all ages and abilities. Thanks to his instruction I won my "A" rating, competed all around the United States, competed three times in the Junior Olympics, was captain of my high school team when we won the state championship, and was briefly on a Division 1 team in college. Watching the club form around Jason and Sue over the years has been exciting as they have created a welcoming community in addition to sports club. Fencing takes time and patience to excel at and master. It fully engages mind and body in a game of physical chess; a dance with your opponent where success is found by breaking the rhythm rather than matching it. If you are looking to learn a martial art, join a supportive community on and off the strip, grow both as a person and as a fencer then you will find no better home than Ace Fencing Academy and no better coaches than Jason and Sue!"
"After a very successful first year in the sport with Conejo Valley Fencing Club, we brought our son to Ace Fencing to work on improving his fundamentals with an eye towards participating in competitions in the future. From the start, both coaches seemed to have a slightly negative bias against fencers who were not classically taught through their salon, and asked that we enroll our high-school-age student in a beginning class, with several students under the age of ten. We did so, but ultimately, even with their recommended private lessons, didn't see much in the way of progress, and got no feedback from the staff. So we offered to add more private lessons as well, in replacement of the beginning class, and were rejected. From our perspective, the adult attendees at this salon are fantastic--warm, open, and more than willing to welcome new members to their group. They genuinely love the sport and want to see everyone succeed. However, this cannot be said of their coaching staff. Ultimately, if you want to follow their regimen, the staff here is probably OK, but if you don't fit their format, there's not much engagement, and they don't seem to have a problem pitting high-schoolers against elementary students if it suits them to do so. If your elementary-age student is OK facing off against high school students, this place could work. Otherwise, we would recommend you find another place, if possible, especially if your student is older and just starting out, or catching up to others."
