Bushido Group, located at 1203 West Puente Avenue, West Covina, California, is a health institution dedicated to the traditional art of Japanese swordsmanship. Founded by Masaji Saito-sensei, who studied under the founder of Shinkendo, our group, Butanken, has deep roots in Shinkendo and Toyama-ryū.

Butanken, short for Bushido Tanren Kenkyukai, translates to Bushido Cultivation Research Group. We study and spread the philosophies that guided the Samurai, practicing core principles of swordsmanship found across many Japanese schools. Our teachings extend beyond the sword to include the philosophies behind its use, as documented by Japanese swordsmen.

While the Samurai rarely used their swords in combat, they trained rigorously to master their art. Today, we can benefit from the same training to cultivate confidence, dignity, and fitness in our modern lives.
