Dr. Matthew Schultzel 28078 Baxter Road, Murrieta, CA 92563

"I am disappointed and even sad about the way Dr. Schultzel made me feel during me post op appointment. On Friday January 19, 2024 at 3:45 I was scheduled for my post-operative appointment with Dr. Burgess who performed my surgery. I arrive to my appointment on time. I was seen shortly after. After waiting in the room for a few minutes a PA and another person entered the room to tell me Dr. Burgess had an emergency and had to leave. She explained that she could answer questions for me and do my post-op appointment. This entire time there was a stranger in the room who was never introduced to me, which was so uncomfortable and in my opinion unprofessional. I am guessing a student but still I was never introduced to her nor asked if I was ok with her being there. I explained to the PA that I had general question but I also had specific questions related to the surgery. Dr. Burgess had mentioned some particular things to my husband after the surgery while I was still at the hospital and I wanted to ask about that. I told her really wanted to speak to a surgeon if Dr. Burgess was not available. She said she would get Dr. Schultzel. Dr. Schultzel came in looked rushed and inconvenienced as he never sat down and showed me that he was willing to take the time with me, the patient. Mind you aside from everything my husband taken the day off work to drive me to this appointment, but somehow I was inconveniencing the practice. The doctor briefly looked over my notes and explained some things, answered my general questions. When the time came to check my wounds he asked me to stand up and lift my shirt he proceeded to check my wounds and remove part of the glue with tweezers. All this while standing bent over having difficulty inspecting. He never asked me to lie on the bed to properly check this. Again, he was rushing and peeling off the glue and at one point I was in pain and he stopped, only to say that “the PA is actually nicer when doing that than me” I am not sure what that was supposed mean but that only confirms what I had already suspected which was that he didn’t want to see me. I understand I wasn’t his patient, but is this really how we treat patients in general? In the room still the PA, the unknown woman all standing surrounding me. I am glad the surgery went well and the work Dr. Burgess has done, but I wish I I would’ve been rescheduled rather than to treated this way. I am writing this review hoping this doesn’t happen to someone else."
