Reviews of Tropic Island Bird & Supply
"I bought a hard to find bird from this store and had it shipped to Florida. Fair prices & prompt communication. Bird arrived safe with no complications. Thank you for being a quality store."
"Bought two birds there and used their pet hotel services. They are extremely honest, telling you the personalities not only of the species but also the individual birds who they have put the time in to know personally. They always give free services like wing and nail clippings for the birds they sell. They taught my conure to talk while he stayed with them! Not a huge selection, they are a loving married couple pursuing a passion on a shoe string budget. Not extremely cheap, but if you think you can get a parrot on the cheap you are making a tragic mistake. They are too intelligent and will come with emotional problems if noone has invested the time in them. I trust these merchants, and that means everything as buying a parrot really is adopting a toddler that will never grow up and it so important to do it right."
"I do like how it’s in an old house but the space felt cramped and disorganized. At times I felt like I was in a storage unit. I noticed a lot of the shelves had cobwebs In the upper corners. The woman working the desk looked annoyed. The worst was the smoke detector (I guess cos it’s in an old house??) was going off beeping randomly and it seemed to make the birds in the adjoining room really uncomfortable! I didn’t feel welcomed in the store so I didn’t even bother to ask permission to see the poor parrots screeching their heads off in the darkened room to the side. The cockatiel food I bought was at an ok price but I could’ve bought it cheaper at petco. In summary to all bird owners out there GO TO OUR FEATHERED FRIENDS INSTEAD! They treat their birds so much better there and are much more welcoming and professional."
"I get Shelby's (a Blue and Gold macaw) nails and wings done here, they are so good that when they do the trimming she never screams. They also share their 20 years of knowledge freely and have taught me how to be a better owner (as if we own them) and care giver. I recommend them highly for all your bird needs."
"I've been a parrot lover my entire life, I have been fortunate to house parrots in need for over 30 years and have had them come and go to re home into forever homes. I know all the local bird stores in San Diego and most of the owners by first name basis. What I am getting at is that I know the industry very well and how businesses work. I am now in the market for a GCC and they had a variety to chose from at very reasonable prices. My experience with Tropic Island Bird and Supply was a very positive one, The owners were sensitive to my needs and I was able to hang out there asking them a huge amount of questions about GCC's and each answer was given in a professional and courteous manner. Answers that I already knew the questions to but wanted to hear them again. I chose the bird and was given a free vet check to the most well renowned Avian Veterinarian in San Diego. Wow, is it a beauty, I can't wait to get acquainted with it. About the store itself, oh my gosh, there was bird seed on the ground and it was a little messy. WELL YEAH it's a bird store, HELLO. Small bird stores are usually a bit messy, birds are messy, just about the messiest pets you can get. So expect a little mess if you go there, it's hard to hire a full time seed sweeper when your a small business owner, and it looks as though they are doing the best they can. The water was clean, the seed was fresh, the cages were clean. If your looking for a bird, please stop by this place, it's worth the look and hopefully you'll take home an incredible, beautiful, well socialized part of the family."
