Reviews of Mission Animal Hospital
"We've been coming here for years, and Mission does seem to have competent vets – though lately they've been bouncing us from one vet to another with little continuity for our cats' health. But after the way we were treated today, we'll be looking for another vet. Mission is all about the bottom line, not about your pet. They push services and treatments – anything that means billable hours. When you ask for something from them in return, they can't be bothered. One of our cats has a skin allergy, and in spite of the high cost of hydrolyzed food, we decided we need to give it a try – because we care about his health. We tried to get the prescription filled through Chewy today, but since I couldn't find the paper prescription we'd been given at our last veterinary visit a few months ago, Mission Animal Hospital couldn't be bothered to pick up the phone to confirm we had a valid prescription – which we do – when Chewy called them. If a doctor's office can do this on a regular basis, when the pharmacy calls them, a veterinary office can, too. I was treated rudely on the phone when I called today. I was told I needed to go in person to pick up a paper prescription. I live in the 5 cities and not in SLO, and it's not convenient for me. I frankly expect a rude response to this review – all about protocols and procedures of Mission Animal Hospital. That's what they told me on the phone. Bottom line: if a doctor's office (a human doctor's office) can pick up the phone to confirm a prescription, a vet's office can, too. It may seem like a trivial thing. Maybe it is. (It is, sure.) But when I'm thinking about a veterinary hospital, I'm thinking about the worst that can happen to our pets. I don't want to be treated like I was treated today when I'm in an emergency with my animals that I love dearly. And Mission really doesn't care about you. They see you and your dog and cat as another line item in their 401K plan. Just another entry for profit. Edit: In response to Bonnie Haley's answer, which contains a few misstatements of fact: 1. We asked to see our previous vet, Dr. Sara, when we made our last appointment. We were told that her hours had been significantly reduced and if we wanted to see her, we'd have to wait for months. Our prescription for our cat's flea medicine, which he needs given his allergy, was about to expire. They're not willing to work with you on that either (billable hours). So, no, you're not, as Bonnie Haley suggests, "free" to see any vet of your choosing. Mission chooses for you. 2. It's true the prescription was emailed to us – but only after much insistence on my part on the phone. The technician / receptionist I spoke with was very clear that the Mission policy was that I had to drive to the clinic to pick up a piece of paper in person, regardless of inconvenience for customers. 3. Notice the frequency of reviews for this clinic, and how many poorer reviews have been happening lately. I think this has to do with management changes in the clinic. We used to love coming here and felt our pets were in good hands –which was why we have been clients for years. The vets, I want to reiterate, have always been there for us, and have never abandoned us or made us feel unwelcome. It is the management which makes me feel that I am not valued as a client. 4. To prove this, Bonnie Haley "fired" me as a client via email after I posted this review – asking me where to send records. I told her where to send my records, because with this kind of management of the clinic, I do not – as I said before – feel safe with my pets being seen in the clinic, no matter how good the vets are."
"Worth every penny of care! Clean, efficient, caring, personable, and all very nice. I honestly highly recommend this place. I think that I’ve never felt more safe at a vet in my life. Very happy to bring my two-year-old beagle in and my eight-year-old long hair calico! Thank you Mission Vet! Just as a sidenote, I’ve worked at a couple different dog resort kennels in town. So with that said, I really just wanna emphasize that I know a decent amount of dog care and I know a great deal about customer service and patient care one of the best bets in town."
"While vacationing on the central coast we observed our dog urinating frequently and at times with urine incontinence over nearly a week. We also noticed she was drinking more water than normal. Since we had another week on vacation we took her to Mission Animal Hospital to be evaluated. We were extremely impressed with the compassion and care their team provided. Dr Jami advised of options which were affordable and would assist in a diagnosis and next steps. Dr. Jami explained her results and created a plan of care. Dr. Jami was very knowledge and caring. We were very impressed with Dr. Jami and her team at Mission Animal Hospital and would highly recommend to those lucky to be living on the beautiful central coast."
"We recently had to have our beloved pup euthanized after 12 years of companionship and a 4-month battle with cancer. The care and compassion the vets and technicians showed us and our companion during her final moments was extraordinary. I had reservations about doing this at the clinic versus having it done in-home. Everyone needs to make their own decision, but I'm grateful we went to Mission Animal Hospital. The environment was comfortable, the process was quick and peaceful, and ultimately, I can compartmentalize that time outside of my day-to-day activities. If you end up needing end-of-life care for your furry friend, know that Mission Animal Hospital is a humane option that cares for you and your pet."
"My wife and I have taken our dogs and cats here for many years and have been super happy with the service. They are so patient with the fact that we want to take natural approaches to things when we can and are not pushy about all the options you could do but maybe don't have in your budget. They just let you know it's a good time for it or to try to plan on it coming up! I also recommend them to literally all of my clients! Happy healthy corgis!"
