Reviews of Film Connection Film Institute
"The Film connection initial sold me on a mentor with truly incredible connections and state of the art equipment. Unfortunately for me he had passed away days before I had called but the school still had started me with him leaving only his business partners who did not do video as a main career to figure out what to do with me. Luckily for me one of them did it as a side job and was able to teach me as well as he could and was incredible patient with me because the school put me in a really bad spot after taking my money. My mentor ended up being a great guy who has and continues to help me, the experience wasn't anything like I was sold on. On top of that the online courses while interesting only teach you the barebones and really focus on you making your own movie not really making a career which is the opposite of what I was told during my initial phone call. My connections from the school were all nice but not particularly enthusiastic about my work or the programs shortcomings. For the most part it was a good experience but the most unforgivable part and reason for the low scorer this was the career services. You have one year from graduation to work with them and it took 7 months for me to hear back from them after my first (multiple) attempts to get in contact. After getting in contact and making my resume I never heard from them again. Someone else unrelated from career services did contact me out of the blue with 1 interview that didn't lead to any work unfortunately. I don't completely regret doing the program because I met a lot of great people, my mentor who has been a great asset to me, and I now am looking for work in a field I love although it would have been nice to have received some help afterwards but I guess thats a lesson that goes along with the program. If you are looking into trying this my advice would be call and meet with your potential mentor and ask alot of questions, if it seems like a good fit and they are very active with video work it may be worth it but if not consider other options"
"Film connection has been a great program for me. I was never much of a learn by the book kinda guy, I always needed to be shown things hands on. Film Connection has been the best of both worlds for me. While I have learned the history of what makes film and how it got to where it is today, I was also able to train on real sets and learn a lot of in studio knowledge that is going to come in handy for my journey. My mentors have been nothing short of great teachers, and even friends to chat about movies on deeper level rather then just “ya I liked it.” My academic facilitator has also been outstanding with guiding me through the program and keeping me updated. I’m ready for a successful career in Film and TV production, and thankfully film connection has put me in a place to do so."
"My experience with the Film Connection was absolutely incredible. Eliot my mentor was very helpful and knowledgeable. He kept me on my toes calling every week to keep me on path which I really liked. Working in the studio was a life changer for me. My eyes were and still are wide open. Ricardo, Geo, Edgar, Steve, Georgia and Gayle are wonderful people inside and out. Helpful and knowledgeable as well in the film, video, podcast, music etc. Working with other students was the best. I have found a new family. Love Love Love Film Connection and the WDM"
"My experience with the Film Connection school has been nothing but pleasant and exciting. The teachers and staff members are all very friendly and helpful, if you work they are more than happy to help with your schedules. All quizzes give you full knowledge on your course and many tips to advance towards your goal. Mentors are amazing. My two mentors have always been open to let me try anything that would help me gain experience in directing and scriptwriting."
"I felt like this was a good experience to learn different areas of the film industry and how it works. I got some good hands on experience with the program. It was nice because I have a couple videos I made with a professional production company. While I feel this was a good experience I still think I have a lot more I can learn and improve my knowledge."
