"The property management here is unreasonable. The air conditioning was out for 8 days mid June! 80+ degrees outside every day. Brownstone did not try and expedite the maintenance request and did not want to compensate for the 8 days without air conditioning. The washing machine in the unit is also very old and in need of replacement which has not been addressed for over a year. It damages clothing and brownstone is aware, but again, will not approve the request."
"I live at the Brownstone on Old Sauk now but have lived at four Steve Brown properties. This is the best rental agency in Madison. The property is quiet and gorgeous-location is great, with lots of restaurants and stores nearby. The staff is super responsive and friendly. Earlier reviews of this property reported things like fire alarms going off and trouble with housekeeping but these have all been fixed-public spaces are immaculate and never have I woken up at night from a fire alarm. If you have a chance to rent from Steve Brown, do it-you won’t regret it!!!!!"
"The Brownstone is a beautiful building in a great location, and we love our spacious 2 BR apartment! During our 4+ year tenure, management has responded to and effectively managed any issue that we have had."
"This building has continuous problems with the alarm system. The lobby alarm has beeped continuously for days and weeks at a time since I moved in two years ago. The issue has never been fixed, and management, maintenance, and emergency maintenance never keeps their promises to follow up with residents. The sound makes the community room and exercise room advertised as amenities useless, as the constant shrieking is extremely unpleasant to endure. The building has been evacuated twice, once in the middle of winter and once at 4am, due to issues with the faulty alarm and again, residents received no follow up. As of today, an alarm has been going off in the lobby continuously for over 24 hours because the front door to the building will not latch, and nothing has been done. The company advertises Brownstone as a secured building, but this is likewise a hollow guarantee. The emergency maintenance line informed me that they will not be following up on the unsecured door or the alarm because they do not consider the issue an emergency."
"My wife and I have been living here now for about 3 months and we have to say that we really love it. The administrative staff are the most pleasant and understanding people to work with. They always go out of their way to help you and really remember you/want you to enjoy living at Brownstone. For example, I had an issue with the electric utilities with set up and they waived not only one but 2 fees because the issue was out of my (and their) control. The building is always immaculate and the landscaping is awesome. If plants are dead or dying it is instantly replaced. They even blow off all of the patios every week for you. Tuesdays they will even pick up your trash and recycling if you leave it outside your door. The garage is always clean. The exercise room is always clean and well maintained. When things break, as they do, they either fix them right away or have a friendly note saying they will have it fixed soon. My only complaints are few. I put in a work order request for a minor issue in my bathroom which I think has been forgotten about without fixing now... Also at midnight the other day all the fire alarms went off from a pipe that exploded in the garage downstairs. Everyone in the building had to evacuate, in our PJs, into the pouring rain for a little over an hour until the fire department stopped the exploding pipe. This was of course out of the control (mostly) of Brownstone, but according to another resident this had happened before. Seems a bit like a liability having hundreds of thousands of dollars of cars in a basement with periodically exploding pipes... Anyway. Great place. Reasonable prices. Nice, but not too many amenities. We'd recommend it."
