Reviews of The London House
"Oh boy, where to start. 1. Process on renting the unit was a hassle. Being active duty military for 6 years, I don’t have a credit score. Never had a credit card either because I don’t believe in spending money i don’t have. Because of this, on top of paying for first months rent, I had to pay an ADDITIONAL $2300 for a security deposit on an apartment that shouldn’t even be renting for more than $1k (this will also get into something else) I got stuck with this place because other places were full and was running out of time. 2. Received my unit “cleaned” and was still finding cat nails and trash under vents after moving in. On top of this, drains were already clogged in sinks and tub. 3. $130 for a SINGLE parking stall that most full sized vehicles can’t actually fit in without crossing neighboring stalls line. Also expect to have a garage door that works half the time. 4. Unannounced unit inspections. October 2023, 2 property managers (not going to give out names here) were checking units unannounced, verified after the inspection through texts, emails, and website portal as well as talking with neighbors, there were no scheduled/announced visits. ON TOP OF BEING UNANNOUNCED, saw property managers going into units where the tenants were absent and also verified they were unaware. On top of this we brought up maintenance issues while they were there and got NOTHING fixed after we brought up the issues. 5. Mail gets stolen constantly because if it doesn’t get put into a mailbox, it sits in the lobby. 6. NOT military friendly. If you are military and in a deployable unit, DO NOT lease from these people. They do not pro rate anything. I got last minute orders to deploy and could not give a 30 day notice, they refused to prorate the 8 DAYS I was in the unit for December. 7. Does not respond (actually part of the reason I’m typing this now) I’ve now been waiting 7 WEEKS to receive my security deposit check because apparently in 2024 the banks can’t transfer money to my account online. (I wouldn’t be surprised if they try and ghost me) I’ve sent email after email now about an update on my security deposit and have gotten NOTHING in response. I’m on the other side of the world right now and having to deal with this bs. 8. Units are overpriced for what they are all while you have no control over unit’s heat and A/C 9. You’re stuck right on one of the busiest streets in Milwaukee, t-bone central. 10. Ridiculous “Convenience Fees”, need I say more? 11. Leasing Agency/Property Managers do not care for the property or tenants. Just walk in there and you’ll see. Overall, do not waste your time or money here. I’d rather be living in a cardboard box than deal with these individuals again. If I don’t get any response back by the end of next week on my security deposit, I will be taking legal action."
"Worst leasing office I’ve ever encountered. It’s company wide in Milwaukee and not just the London House. They’re impossible to get a hold of, they let a homeless man live and piss where ever he pleased in the building for months and I moved out months ago leaving my old roommate there but they still can’t manage to get me off the lease nor my parking spot that they don’t use or wanna pay for. These points aren’t even 25% of the idiotic shenanigans that they make you put up with. If you have ANY other options live there instead."
"Horrid building management, uncaring and unresponsive. Maintenence is great, but New Land is a good example of why larger landlords have a bad reputation. Anything requiring more than a handyman becomes an endless struggle with the office because they simply do not care about the property. Do not rent here, do not rent from any New Land properties, unless you want packages stolen and to live in a building that doubles as a squat for the homeless."
"Don’t bother spending your money! About a month ago I was looking for an apartment to rent. I just recently had to move to Milwaukee for an opportunity. It was easy to set up an appointment and had a showing with Melissa the next day. She was super nice and explained the details of the apartment and lease options very well. She told us that the apartments go fast and if we want a good chance to get in we had to submit an application by that evening. Melissa informed me that the application fee was $30 total for me and my roommate. After the tour was done I asked about parking. She told me there was parking in the garage but there was currently a waiting list. I asked her if she could tell me what number I would be on the waiting list. I wanted to avoid having to search for parking every night and moving it during winters. That evening I went on The New Land website provided to me and found that they wanted $90 in application fees for two applications and a background check. I thought that was over priced since many other apartments in the area only require you pay $10 per applicant for background and credit checks. When I saw this I called and texted Melissa through out the following week asking if she could help verify the price. I also asked if she found out about the parking situation. Even though each text showed me that they were read I never got a response. It wasn’t until I called New Land the owner of the property and asked to speak with someone did I get a response from Melissa. She informed me that I had to pay the fee in order to get these questions resolved. So I did, Nearly a month later I have never heard back regarding my questions on parking or my application status. Luckily I had a backup apartment that I liked. I had no issues getting approved. The owners even waved the application fee of $20 and I was moving in within a week."
"Pros: - Maintenance is super efficient, reliable, and friendly - Third floor units have high, wooded ceilings that look really beautiful for the same cost as units on other floors - Common areas are kept pretty clean considering this is a busy apartment off of Brady street - Great location if you’re in your early twenties and want to be near bars / restaurants / the lake Cons: - Parking spots are small, difficult to get into, and some are only semi-covered which is inconvenient in the winter - The building is on a busy one-way street so having visitors is always a hassle - Washing machines constantly break and eat your quarters - I've been emailing and calling relentlessly trying to give notice of my move out (hoping I'll finally get someone to contact me if I post a public review lol). I’m very disappointed the office staff won't get back to me, despite good communication at the beginning of my lease Overall I think this is a good deal for people who are looking for an apartment in between basic and luxury, just know the amenities are nothing special and the building could use renovations. As a young woman living alone, I feel safe here. I’m not renewing because I’m moving out of state, but otherwise would probably stay another year."
