Reviews of Parkside At Estabrook Apartments
"There are a lot of older tenants who treat the other residents like absolute dirt. There are two elderly women living here that harass younger disabled people. One of them, who claimed to be the building manager but isn't, accused me of being on drugs because I was looking for my earring in the parking lot. When my dad tried to help me find it, she kept yelling at us to shut up. Her daughter tried to act like I was threatening her mom and it made me feel very unsafe as a neurodivergent person that they might try to have the cops come and shoot me under the guise that I was a violent drug addict or something. I shouldn't have to feel like that in the place where I live. I did cuss them out when they refused to leave me alone but at that point they had already been harassing me and tried to claim that I didn't live here. They both then proceeded to call the office demanding that something be done about me as if they weren't the ones who initiated the interaction to begin with. I felt genuinely bad for the office staff having to deal with the situation but they handled it with grace towards both parties. The other older woman who harasses disabled people does so by barring them from getting on the elevator. I see a lot of reviews complaining about drug usage around the building but I haven't seen much of that myself, mostly just older people accusing people of doing drugs based on no amount of evidence whatsoever. That's not even the worst part though. It's $1400 a month for particleboard cabinets with shelves that flip over if anything is placed on them and the absolute worst plumbing that renders the kitchen unusable. There's bugs and trash in the common areas, the lobby often smells like spoiled fish, and there are nails sticking out of the railings in the stairwell. I couldn't figure out why my gas bill was so high and it turns out that the window in the second bedroom doesn't seal all the way. I genuinely hate it here and I'm moving out at the end of my lease even if I don't have anywhere else to go because I'd rather have nothing than stay here."
"Pros: -Decent area to live in -Maintenance is on top of their work -Great secluded parking -Important notices are communicated properly Cons: -Seems like front desk workers are unfriendly at times -Inconvenient office hours (sometimes they will be vacant during designated office times) -Finding a parking spot can be a hassle, especially in the winter. -My biggest con is dealing with the workers excluding the maintenance guy. Overall: I personally think that this is a great location for QUIET individuals. It does not seem like the apartment tenants or workers like it when you have friends or family over. So, if you are an outgoing college student or young adult, I would NOT recommend this apartment. There was not a lot of issues during my stay in my unit, it was the interactions with the leasing office/front desk workers that gave me an unpleasant feeling. They seem to have an attitude when I came in to get my packages or when I had questions."
"My wife and I lived here for two years, just finished moving out. Out of the apartment complexes we've stayed at, this is one of the better ones. The building does have some annoyances/oddities (upside-down outlets, constantly changing office hours that aren't always accurate, missing weights in the exercise room), but overall we had a positive experience. Great location on the Oak Leaf trail and right across the street from Estabrook Park. We had a good relationship with the front office (esp. Patti) and maintenance team (Bill) and never experienced any serious inconveniences - no stolen mail or packages, no issues with neighbors, etc. We received our entire security deposit back, too, although we had to wait three weeks (the max time) for it."
"I lived at Parkside for two years in an "updated unit". Here are some pros and cons from my experience. Pros: -Big kitchen with plenty of counter top space and all updated and functioning appliances. Range was not gas, and there was enough cabinet space for storage -The space itself was a good size -Location is good. Right off of 43, close to Whitefish Bay and Shorewood. Close to the mall, right across from the park, Bier garden, and oak leaf trail -My bathroom was nice and had a large counter top -Both bedrooms had large closets -Free parking in the large lot behind the building, with available underground parking -Secured mail room -We had no maintenance issues Cons: -Price was high for what you got. The unit wasn't bad, but it did cost more compared to similar units, and they upped the price after the first year -The electrical work is weird. All of the outlets in the unit were upside down, and I confirmed that this was the case in at least 2 other units. The lights above the backside doors are motion sensitive, but will shut off once you approach the doors instead of turning on. These might seem like small annoyances, but they get irritating after a while. Why was this not done properly? -Mail room hours are posted, but not always followed -Laundry is extremely expensive at $1.75 per load per wash, $1.75 per dry. It's highway robbery. It took around a year to get one of the washers fixed. While there are 5 washers and driers on 2 floors, expect to find only 3-4 of the 5 working -Smells of smoke and/or weed in certain hallways based on the tenants -My roommate's bathroom was small and had very little space -Bedroom windows were extremely hard to open -The workout center consists of cardio stuff, a few free weights, and 2 machines. Its better than nothing, but you're better off getting a proper gym membership. Overall we had a good experience at Parkside. If some of the issues above were fixed, or the price was lowered, this could turn into a really great place to live."
"I'm having problems and I feel the need to update a past review. While the perks (see below) are lovely. Lately there is so much that is frustrating. 1. Locking up my produce overnight so it begins to rot, instead of leaving it outside the office, calling, or being considerate in any way. 2. Constantly changing the office hours, often last minute, so you can't get packages or address concerns. 3. Funneling money into making a few areas (to draw in more tenants) to look nice, while doing no updates or maintenance to units. 4. Not fixing things if they are not broken 'enough'. I can't slide my screen door and I'm missing functional lights in my kitchen (but not all), so I am not a priority. There was a back door a couple of weeks ago that you couldn't use and the man in the office had nerve to say it was even more secure, so that was better. WHAT??, Pretty sure you need to be able to open doors. 5. Changing my lease from a 6 month to a 1 year lease (Because they do this automatically) even when I asked for a 6-month lease. When asking for them to allow us to leave earlier than December, being told I would be breaking my lease. I have lived here for 6 years. That's over $80,000. If you cannot help someone who has spent this kind of money and been a tenant for this long, don't expect to find it when you move in. I have lived in several different apartments across WI, and I like it hear at Parkside the best. A few reasons why: 1. The office staff are very helpful 2. Underground spot in the garage (awesome in winter) 3. They just put up the holiday decorations (including a giant REAL Christmas tree) and the building is festive and adorable. 4. Big 2 bedroom 2 baths with nice sized rooms for all 5. Workout room and Community room. 6. Free overnight visitor parking, great for those who like to entertain and have people over. The building has college students, families, seniors and is a very interesting place to live. They have social events too. I just went to a Fall party not that long ago that was fun (and had free food). All in all if you are looking for somewhere to live in this area where you will happy, check this place out."
