"I have been here 6 years or more and I absolutely love the entire staff, Annie, Mashyllia and Corey! They really go above and beyond for everything! I appreciate everything they do to keep the property looking great and the communication with them is always a fast response and followed through!"
"This is my detailed review of my time here since Spring 2021 to Fall 2023: The long story short is that this place cares for its tenants, and it's very commendable how fast their response times are compared to other places. When I first moved in, the closet was broken; it took something like half a year before it was finally fixed, due to the supply shortage. Some electrical outlets also didn't work, and one kitchen drawer would not pull out easily because of either damaged or missing parts. The thermostat needed new batteries. There was still hair left from the previous tenant in the bathroom sink's drawer. Multiple garage remotes died and needed replacing due to problems beyond just their batteries. However, their maintenance workers took care of literally all of these matters over time. On more than one occasion, I accidentally closed the garage with the remote still in it (since there is no separate entry door), yet they helped me at no cost as it was during business hours; not all places offer free garage lockout support, even during biz hours. Most impressively, I accidentally damaged my own toilet's water tank entirely due to my own clumsiness when trying to reset the tank lid, but the generous staff (at the time, I believe Mashyllia and Anne) replaced it, free of charge. This was a VERY positive response from the management that cemented my trust. As a warning, the place has had its fair share of bugs. I have found centipedes more-than-monthly throughout the summer, and a couple of times, a bee and a hornet entered through the heating vents in Fall and Spring. The office provides free bug traps upon request. There have only been a few times when they did not answer the phone, and the staff are usually quick to get back to you. They try to instill community through an online message board, which is very commendable. At one point, they even took a poll among their residents regarding towing procedures for cars. How many places will bother to do that? Unfortunately, the place experienced probably about a dozen car thefts or break-ins from what I gathered on the message boards and their announcements over the 2½ years that I stayed there. This is certainly not their fault, as this location borders southside MKE, and we all know what crime is like here. But aside from that, I felt generally safe here (I never actually saw/heard any of the break-ins myself). Considering how other apartments charge you more for various services and how some even prohibit you from duplicating your own keys, American Colony is quite reasonable. My one general concern is that I think they don't have enough maintenance staff, but their generosity with what-was-100%-my mistake has solidly earned my trust that this is a place worth living at, plus them refunding my full security deposit (sure busted my butt to get it back, though!). I appreciate the rapid response to everything and if it wasn't for the price, lack of studio sizes, and my work location, I might still be living here—but I review based on their service, not the apartment cost. It's also within walking distance to Festival Foods' Greenfield location, 10 minutes away from the MKE airport, and close to one of the cheapest gas stations in the area: the BP on Layton. Your address is also an actual house number without an apartment number (even though it's an apt.)!"
"Lived here for about six years now and have been very pleased. They've made some pretty substantial updates since I've been here - a new pool last year, work-out room was just updated a few weeks ago, some new parking areas. They recently re-did the exteriors of all the buildings, giving it a more contemporary look. Each unit also has a washer/dryer, private entrances, AC and a dishwasher. If you're an upstairs unit you get a deck and if your a downstairs you get a patio. My neighbors unit can see the downtown skyline. Good for pets and if you like to garden. Been pretty happy with calling this place my home!"
"I really loved American Colony Apartments! The grounds were kept super clean, snow was plowed every chance! The management was always super helpful with me and maintenance orders were usually fulfilled within a week of me calling. There was a problem when I first moved in with the AC not working, but the management was kind enough to lend me multiple air conditioning units until it was fixed and helped pay for the WE Energies bill that was high after running all of them! I've been living here for just over a year and haven't had any problem with bed bugs as other reviews suggest, although I do keep my apartment fairly clean!"
"I honestly didn't mind my stay here. I've lived in almost a dozen apartment complexes in my life and this one was pretty solid. It definitely met our needs and for the most part, we never really had any bad experiences. Highlights - The staff is pretty great. We've had nothing but great service from everyone at the office. They are very pleasant with good communication, and are there when they say they will be. - The maintenance staff was very responsive when we had an issue. - The grounds were pretty well taken care of. - It's extremely convenient being that close to 27th street and the interstate. I loved that. - Our apartment was SOLID. It took us 6 months to figure out there was a newborn baby living below us. The sound proofing between floors was shockingly good. - Our neighbors were all very nice and always said hello when outside. Not Highlights - The apartments are older, so with that comes lots of repairs. As mentioned, the maintenance staff was spot on, arriving promptly and fixing it the first time. We got a brand new washer/dryer within a day or two when ours wasn't working correctly. - Certain windows leak a little during heavy rains, but only when it comes from weird directions. - Probably the biggest turn off for me was that it's DARK at night (obviously). There are tons of light posts on garages and along the drives, but many (maybe 50%?) don't work. From the leasing office to the NE corner has, at the time we left, zero lights working out of 6-7 posts. It's not that I felt unsafe, it's just a little dangerous walking your dog at night because you can't see where you're going. Overall, I didn't mind my stay. We would probably still be there if we didn't move for work related reasons."
