San Diego Sailing Academy

San Diego Sailing Academy, located at 1021 Scott Street in San Diego, California, is a renowned institution offering expert maritime witness services by Captain Mike Monastra. With years of experience as a private yacht captain and SEAK trained expert witness, Captain Monastra is well-equipped to handle complex seamanship and maritime cases. His expertise in teaching sailing and powerboat courses allows him to explain maritime laws and rules in a clear and understandable manner.

Having sailed and skippered a wide variety of sailboats and motor yachts, Captain Monastra is proficient in all aspects of seamanship. He obtained his Captains License in 1990 and has dedicated his career to sailing and motor yachting. As a professional sailing and powerboating instructor at San Diego Sailing Academy and San Diego Powerboating Academy, he has certified over 2600 students in the ASA and US Powerboating programs.

While the old academy websites are no longer active, Captain Monastra continues to offer his expert witness services from his base in San Diego. He is semi-retired and splits his time between his home in Kelowna, Canada and cruising aboard his motor yacht, Prairie Girl. Despite his retirement, Captain Monastra is available to provide opinions, review documents, and participate in depositions and trials for maritime cases.
