Reviews of Sage Creek High School
"I loved high school. We had a lot of great programs: strong Science Olympiad, biomedical sciences and engineering classes, great teachers. I go to Berkeley right now and I am very prepared. It's brand new. It was a lot of work but it was also a lot of fun. (We're also better than Carlsbad HS. Just mentioning.) The trimester system is not fast paced, it's just less boring more learning. You won't find yourself sitting around wondering what you learned in the last week in 2 trimester classes (AP classes sort of a different story. Still wish they were 2 trimesters). There's secretly less homework than semesters, for examples, math 2/3 out of the year, 1/3 no math homework. Oh and 5 star people are positive people who made the most of high school and are now going places. And I like Darius and Ben Barajas."
"I honestly had a great experience at this school even with all the difficulties that it had my freshman year, since it had just opened. While, I did find the course load to be a lot to handle and the trimester system to be fast paced, in the end I think it prepared me for the rest of life. I am currently in college and had this school not been as rigorous as it is, I would have found the first semester of my freshman year to be a lot harder for me. Another reason I enjoyed this school and still continue to enjoy it is because you really get to know everyone and your teachers. When I have free time I still like to say hi to everyone and see what is going on. If you want to go to a school that will prepare you for the rest of your life and that you will not just be a number in, then I recommend going to Sage Creek."
"As a man who is very concerned about his education, I am very pleasured to say Sage Creek High School is the place for a high quality education. Never have I ever had such a place to let a deep and complicated mind like mine run wild. When I was a little boy in middle school, I did not learn anything. Now as a man in High School, every day is a fun filled adventure with knowledge around every corner. I am an adventurer for knowledge. -Adventure Logan"
"Sage Creek is in general a good place to go to school. I'm a sophomore this year and I can tell you with confidence that most of the people that go to SCHS are nice and good hearted people. We learn a lot and become very independent learners here. However, I think the math and science teachers at the school suck. They don't know how to teach the material and do not like children and I don't understand why they teach high school if they hate kids so much. We have a lot of CIF winning sports already and great coaches. Who needs football? Overall, I'd say the best part of going to SCHS is the sense of community. Most people really do care about you on some level and there really isn't much bullying or cattiness going on. Overall, it's not a bad place to go to school."
"Sage Creek has become affiliated with being the "nerd school" of Carlsbad, but looking at our test scores, you would think just the opposite. Could this be thanks to the awful integration of online teaching through programs like Quia and myHRW? Or maybe its thanks to spending $104 million on the construction of the school, leaving only enough money to pay less than sub-par teachers. Mind you there are some good ones that deserve genuine pity for needing to work there, Mrs. Mo, Mrs Andersonn, and a few others. Sage has been experiencing growing problems since it's establishment in 2013, but almost 3 years later, nothing has been fixed, and the inexperienced people running the show are still creating more problems by adding more computer lessons (this is teacher talk for "teach yourself the lesson while i eat a granola bar at my desk and get paid for teaching a whole day"), and trying to distance themselves from the "standard" high school. Ironically, the same teachers that taught me "quality over quantity" are now the ones who are being forced to teach faster, less thought out lessons (thanks to trimesters), rather then taking time on each lesson and making sure that even some of the students are understanding the material. If you are deciding between Carlsbad and Sage, don't think that the "trimester" system is anything close to beneficial to the student. It was apparently too much to ask of the modest brains behind Sage Creek to realize that cramming 6 months of curriculum into 2 months is not possible for students to balance. Side note: somewhere along the planning, they must have neglected to differentiate between honors and standard classes, because taking an honors class equates to getting more homework and less help from the teacher, with no impact on GPA, yet ending the curriculum at the same time as the normal class. Sage Creek had the opportunity to be an outstanding school where students could differentiate themselves in the increasingly competitive college application process, but ended up coming up short of even it's 60 year old sister school, and letting the current students feel the consequences. I sincerely hope that this review changes the mind of anyone planning on going here."
