"As Former construction worker 100% DO NOT recommend this school. I took 3 courses in the Electrical Program in 2023 All were a waste of time. I didn’t gain any knowledge or basic understanding of electricity. Feel like I was lied to and sold on a fake dream. They told me it was hands on when I applied. Turns out it’s not. 65% of it is theory as the dean says. The curriculum is nonsense, they make you watch YouTube videos and everything is online. How is anyone gonna get any knowledge from watching videos? Better off learning at home. (Now I’m stuck with a debt). School is also very unprofessional the times I was there they didn’t even know who the instructor was half the time they always had substitutes. Literally just throw online work at you and make you figure it out yourself. Yes some instructors would go far beyond to help the students but even they would complain on how the curriculum was a bunch of nonsense. ITS A SCAM!! Don’t waste your time!! Stick to an adult school or a community college."
"I graduated from the Electrical Program from SJVC in August 2023 in which the instructors were exceptional in their teachings and hands on experience. I decided to return to the school for the HVAC program at nights (it's the only class they have). I started the program in October. 2023 in which the program was really slow and hardly any hands-on experience. Our instructor got in a car accident, and we had to share the advance class instructor. Mr. Droog had to teach two classes for the last two months. Mr. Droog went above and beyond teaching both classes. The issue I'm having is with the Academic Dean and Mr. DeBerry (In charge of the Electrical and HVAC program). For the first three weeks of December, we weren't told if we were going to get a substitute teacher for our class. I had spoken with the Academic Dean, and she informed me that they were looking for a replacement, but it was going to take time. In addition, I had requested a meeting with Mr. DeBerry and when I went to his office to talk to him. He was being condescending towards me when I requested to talk to him because I assumed we had a meeting. I asked him if they have found a new instructor for our class, which he replied that they had one soon. However, a couple of days later we had found out that they haven't hired a new instructor. This was already over a month, and they hadn't hired a new instructor. As of 1-29-2024, we were informed that our original teacher is coming back to teach us. For the amount of money we pay for the school, we haven't gotten the adequate amount of time to focus on the subjects. It's not Mr. Droog's fault at all, he has been the best instructor i have had at SJVC. All in all, I've found my experience in the HVAC program very disappointing. We pay a premium for an expedited learning experience which has not been held to the standard they charge. It is clear to me now that the school holds no value for the program and does the bare minimum to create the illusion for the government to continue funding the program."
"They don’t know what they’re doing with Vets to all my Vets out there, $26k for a ET cert program and at a Jr college its $2k takes 4 months longer as long as you study through summer and winter breaks but you won’t waste your GI Bill! Also make sure you have a physical copy of your COE bc “apparently” they can’t enroll you without it even though every other school has a certified VA Official who can look it up in the system to determine how many months you have left for the year. So technically you don’t need a physical copy but at this school you do and even if you try to correct them and educate them about the COE and the VA website they get frustrated and will not listen. And to be quite frank we are students looking for an education, we came to the school bc we already had intentions to enroll into any one of your programs. Your admissions reps don’t need to come off as car sales men trying to sell you the program it’s just weird and gimmicky. Don’t even get me started on the Financial aid side oh boy what a let down SJVC."
"I’m pretty disappointed in SJVC & their process for previous students trying to re-enroll for a completely different program. I attended SJVC in 2019, and classes started the week following me getting married and moving out of state. I tried to manage but with such huge life events I could no longer continue doing school. Some time has gone by, and I am now ready to return for a completely different program, along with my husband who was also going to be going to SJVC but after the experience I received after I let them know I was a previous student neither me or my husband will be attending here. It’s unfortunate! I was ready to enroll in school to get started in working towards my career and goals, and being told I will have to wait until Novembers start date because I was previously a student is ridiculous."
"I cannot recommend this school for the RN program. There are many reasons but while still enrolled, I must provide a limited review to avoid potential issues. I had an unsettling experience when I questioned a grade from a professor, as their response was a threat to lower it further. Additionally, there were allegations that this same professor, allegedly acting on behalf of the student who holds a grudge against me, listened to false accusations and reported me to CPS. These allegations were ultimately found to be baseless. It's concerning that a professor would act on hearsay rather than concrete evidence, which is not in line with mandated reporting standards. Mandated reporters are obligated to furnish accurate and trustworthy information grounded in their own observations or firsthand experiences of a situation. It is unethical to report false or deceptive information, especially when it involves one student making allegations against another due to personal animosity. On a more positive note, I have encountered few dedicated and caring staff members within the school who are genuinely committed to student success. I just hope to make it through this nursing program without any more issues while also appreciating the support of those who are genuinely invested in our education."
