Reviews of Doris Chiang Piano Studios
"I have been studying with Dr. Chiang for 2 years. I believe that during these 2 years my level of piano playing as well as overall musicianship has improved considerably. Dr. Chiang is an amazing teacher for several reasons. 1) She is very patient and caring. She understands the experience and challenges of learning to play piano, whether if you have just began to learn play, or if you have been playing for several years. She always considers the student's perspective when teaching, and she tries to work with the student in accomplishing their goals rather than getting frustrated and blaming the student for their mistakes. Sometimes beginners are hesitant to find a private teacher because they are afraid that they might not meet that teacher's expectations. Dr. Chiang is different from such teachers because she understands this fear, and she allows beginners to let go of this fear and actually learn piano for themselves and their own enjoyment. 2) Her method of teaching is unique compared with more traditional methods of piano playing. Rather than demanding technical perfection, and many hours of practice, Dr. Chiang prefers to allow the student to acquire a sense of musicality and appreciation. For example, her use of methods and visual storytelling lets the student relate piano to their own life. The stories and allegories that she uses are not only effective in improving the student's level of playing, but it also makes playing the piano fun for the student. They also make the music more accessible and understandable to the student. In this way, students will enjoy playing the piano rather than fearing it because of the preconceived notions of hard work and grit associated with it. 3) Even with the comfortable atmosphere of her studio, Dr. Chiang still manages to allow each student to play at the full potential without being aggressive towards the students. She helps the students set goals for themselves to accomplish, and therefore make progress. For those with more experience, Dr. Chiang will not be a disappointment. She has experience and skill to teach at the most sophisticated level of piano playing as well. Even the top young musicians in the country will have a lot to learn in her studio. 4) Students are welcome to participate in monthly workshops, community recitals, studio recitals, evaluations such as the Certificate of Merit program, as well as piano competitions and regional festivals for the experienced players. Students of all levels of playing will be able to find a place to showcase their achievements as well as get to know other students in her studio. Dr. Chiang even has socials every year at the studio with the sole purpose of letting her students get to know each other and have fun. Overall, my experience with Dr. Chiang has not just taught me how to improve my level of playing, but has also taught me how to enjoy playing the piano and appreciate the beauty of music."
"My 14-year-old daughter has been taking lessons with Dr. Chiang for almost a year. Just this school year my daughter was accepted into a local performing arts school and needed help developing her skills. Since taking lessons with Dr. Chiang my daughters playing abilities have grown substantially. Dr. Chiang has been patient, caring, challenging and uses great analogies to help my daughter understand different techniques. Dr. Chiang also does extra group workshops before recitals and the Certificate of Merit program. This helps her students feel more comfortable playing in a friendly environment before their performances. My daughter feels very fortunate to have found such a qualified teacher."
"I really love that Doris does Skype lessons now, super convenient for my daughter when we're on vacation or staying with family out of state. These lessons aren't for amateurs, more so for children training for piano competitions. That kind of lesson is harder to find actually and that's why we go to Mrs. Chiang."
"For my niece Alyssa's 7th birthday I bought her a 6 months worth of lessons from Doris Chiang. She was so excited when she found out she would be learning to play piano. I couldn't believe how much she learned from her tutelage. Not only did she gain a firm understanding of music fundamentals, but I also noticed a major effect on her self discipline and concentration. I had no idea how much she would learn and grow but it is truly inspiring. Thank you Doris! I am now considering lessons for myself!"
"My child was training for months and literally showed no progress with her old teacher and we had to switch. Normally switching instructors is really difficult but Doris is a very good teacher with skills that are much more suited for my daughters skill level. Sometimes if you don't have the right instruction, the student can out play the teacher and the teacher only has so much more to offer. Ms. Chiang's lessons seem to improve my daughters skill level exponentially, as she's preparing to compete in a few things this year. We're still customers of Doris and so far it seems like we'll continue to be for a long while."
