Reviews
"Mr. Somogyi and his team are the best in the central coast. I disagree with all the negative reviews; he truly cares on the best outcome for his clients. He’s elegant, firm, and assertive. He is experienced, effective and professional and will keep fighting on your case. I had two pervious attorneys which I had bad experience and four different friends highly recommended him. I am grateful I took their advice. I can’t thank Mr. Somogyi enough. You will not be disappointment."
"This man is abusive, arrogant, and dishonest. Don't walk, RUN in the opposite direction!! He is a bully, and does not care about the best interest of his client, nor does he have any character or one shred of integrity. AVOID AT ALL COSTS! If going up against him, be aware your attorney will get the run around left and right, up and down, all day long, costing you a lot more in fees. It's all a game. =("
"I agree with Tina and Wendy. AVOID THIS ATTORNEY AT ALL COSTS! Family law is usually adversarial and your choice of attorney makes a huge difference in the costs and outcome of your case. Somogyi is a bully. Thankfully, I was represented by a wonderful family law attorney but my ex-husband was represented by Somogyi in a custody battle brought by my ex. He was uncompromising and his drama backfired. My ex ended up losing visitation time and had to pay my attorney fees. I also witnessed Somogyi demeaning his client the hallway outside the courthouse. Tip: The court is open to the public so you are able to witness an attorney in action. Look up the family court docket, which lists the attorneys appearing for the day. Sit in on an OSC (Order to Show Cause) or a trial to see for yourself. P.S. My grandmother was represented by Ed Somogyi's dad, also an attorney, and said that he was an abusive bully decades ago. (She fired him.) I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree."
"Ed Somogyi was appointed by the court to act as minors counsel for my children in 2011. We were ordered by the court to pay about 1/4 of his hourly rate - and because of this, we received about 10% of his time and attention. For three years, I plead with him to help me protect my children and got nowhere. He was appointed to be their voice and advocate in the Family court system and in my opinion, he failed. Thankfully, the court finally protected my children in 2014 but it should've happened much earlier if Ed would have actually done his job. After my initial meeting with Ed, I went home hopeful. I stayed up late into the night, preparing all of the things he had requested. My children's lives rested in his hands. Three weeks later, just 24 hours before my hearing, I got a phone call from Ed asking if I would be OK with him continuing my hearing. I agreed because I knew he had not done any of the work he had promised in contacting any of the witnesses I had provided. One of his staff members called me weeks later asking me for collateral contacts after I had already provided everything to them. It was so confusing and I felt devastated. I felt like I had been delivered a sales pitch. It has been the most unprofessional experience of my entire life. Because of my own journey, I have become a family court advocate and I hear complaints about Ed Somogyi constantly, even from the people who have paid his ungodly hourly rate. Based on my own experience and the experience of others (whom I assist in the family court nightmare), I could never recommend Ed Somogyi to anyone."
"If I could give less than 1 star I would. Edward Somogyi has been holding my deceased husband's trust since 1997. I called several times after my husband's death to claim the trust to care for my 3 small children, the youngest being 4 years old. Each time I called, they told me there was no money, or trust. I continued to call because I knew the money was there and had documentation. Last May 2, 2015, Edward Somogyi finally reported the trust to the California State Controller's office without regard to the laws which provide that he turn the trust over to the beneficiary [spouse - me]. After several contacts with his office and him this morning, he is still saying they do not have the money and he has no legal obligation to me despite reporting it to the state. This guy is a crook. His bookkeeper, Holly has yet to to return my calls for disbursement. It's been almost 20 years. Trust was being kept from us by Edward Somogyi. I have reported him to the CA State Bar and the State is intervening on my behalf. If you want an attorney that is honest and forthright, Edward Somogyi is not the right attorney you're looking for. Be careful. Going through divorce is hard enough without trying to hire a dick so your partner won't get "everything." In the end he will treat you the way he deals with your partner. That being said, my husband and I reconciled before he passed away and the retainer kept unlawfully because Edward Somogyi is just that way. Engage at your own risk."
