"Soquel High School is the last place that I would recommend any students to attend. The faculty/staff does not show any empathy towards students feelings, nor academic/emotional needs. My experience as a student here has absolutely traumatized me and ruined my high school potential due to the fact that it is such a negative and strict learning environment. Aside from a few select classes and teachers Soquel does not promote individuality, creativity among students, and the teachers certainly do not know how to get everyone in the classroom feeling involved and motivated in lessons. I would highly recommend to attend Santa Cruz High School rather than Soquel."
"Great school with some exceptions. I spent four years at Soquel under some truly wonderful and knowledgeable teachers including Jim Stewart (Music), Mrs. Ferejohn (History), Mr. Valladolid (History), Mr. Sidens (Chemistry). The music department is the best in the county with both the A Jazz band and Varsity band taking home gold in competitions. My only gripe with the school was the math department, particularly with a old geometry teacher who never taught, but would pretend to when the county came in. Im not even sure if he is around anymore. Would I send my kids here in the future? Yes."
"Nice campus."
"My daughter and I love this school, but I didn't rate it with 5 stars because my daughter needs counselor advices and they are never available because they only have 2 counselors for 1200 students !!! So even though they are great counselors they don't have time for all the students... that's the only reason I didn't give them 5 stars because the teachers are great and my daughter ( Spanish speaking ) learned in 2 years her English perfect and I can't thank the school enough for helping her with the language !"
"As a senior this year, I enjoyed the school but it has many flaws. Beginning with no option for Spanish 4 for students who don't want to take AP Spanish. It was available last year but not this year, because a teacher who taught it retired. Yet they have 4 Spanish teachers who are fully capable to teach it, but they don't have that class. AP Spanish has a class of about 10-14 people in it maybe a little bit more, and it only has 1 class. If it were a more wanted class, more students would be in it and more classes of it would be taught. Sadly students found it too difficult for themselves. So they are not taking it and would rather take Spanish at Cabrillo than here at Soquel. Secondly the Math Department is dreadful. My Sophomore year was Geometry, and I learned nothing from it. Due to the fact that the teacher was so unwilling to teach us anything. People just walked in and played on their phones or texted. I didn't learn a thing and yet I passed to Algebra 2 , and struggled due to the fact that my year in Geometry was pointless . The teachers are always changing year by year, last year many students witness a teacher flip out and she got fired and replaced. Which shows how bad our Math Department is. English Department is alright, could use some improvement but nothing to serious to say about it. Along with the other Departments, they are all decent some better than others but otherwise solid enough. Though a lot of school events are really boring and make me feel tried due to how pointless they are . Because they are more of a popularity contest rather than a school wide event, which makes a lot of kids not care or give a damn about what is going on. It's dreadful, boring, and just underwhelming. The rallies are mostly copy paste from the year before, the dances are plain barely anyone goes to them besides Prom. And overall the school is not really worth attending, because there are way better public schools than this one. This is only great if you want to do Gmec or English. Other than that it is trash."
