My City School

"Before being accepted to My City School, during the application process, our daughter was hooked on MCS and even requested an additional participation day so she could witness the completion of a project. Our daughter was very involved in where she wanted to transfer schools and started at MCS as a 7th grader 5 months ago and is very happy. What she loves most about MCS is the style of learning she experiences - "it's very hands-on". Jennifer and each staff member take great time and attention to learn how each child learns and tailors the instruction accordingly. They help to uncover the strengths in each child and arm them with the tools they need to work through their learning challenges. We were so impressed with how much time Jennifer and her staff took to get to know our daughter ensuring it would be a good fit all around. MCS is more than a school comprised of kids and teachers it's a tight knit group of people who are rooting for each other. It brings our family peace of mind knowing our daughter in such good hands."

"We are so thrilled that our son is attending MCS as a 5th grader this year after not having his educational needs met in public school. He was slipping further and further behind and needed new ways of learning in a positive and inclusive environment. My City School centers on the whole child, and students learn how they learn best - as well as and learning how to advocate for themselves successfully! My City School is a safe space for kids who learn differently. Learning differently is embraced while students work at an academic pace that is appropriate for them, but also teaches them to stretch those skills and try new things. We are very grateful that we found My City School and feel confident that our son will be well prepared for private high school!"

"This school has absolutely transformed the life of my daughter, currently an 8th grader at My City School. I never would have imagined that after one year at MCS, my daughter would be thriving to this extent academically, socially and personally in so many ways. As a parent with experience at multiple prior public and private high schools for both of my children, I would rate this school as stellar. I believe it provides an education that far exceeds that of most schools for children with learning differences. When my daughter came to MCS she was quite behind academically based on her experience at a different school for children with mild to moderate learning challenges. Jennifer (the head of school) and all of the excellent teachers at MCS quickly identified Sara's strengths and potential, and also helped pinpoint the specific challenges that were getting in the way, along with very concrete steps for how to address each of those challenges. Based on a very individualized approach, excellent and frequent communication with parents, and a very loving and supportive approach to build her self-confidence and self efficacy, we saw immense improvements in her learning and overall happiness. Our options for high school are much expanded as a result, and MCS is helping us put together a learning program to ensure that she catches up and is grade level or (very close to that) as she starts high school. Jennifer and the other teachers are incredibly invested in the success of each child at MCS, and they are similarly supportive of the parents, recognizing the challenges of raising a child with learning differences. Overall, we have been very impressed with this program, and give it our highest possible recommendation."

"My daughter came to My City School this year and what a tremendous difference it has made in her learning . We were hesitant to remove her from her longtime school where she was comfortable and had close friends. But in her first week at MCS she remarked that "it doesn't even feel funny to be here, I feel like I've been here all along". This exemplifies the wonderfully warm, welcoming , and nurturing environment provided by all the teachers and instilled in the students as well. In my daughter's second week of school she asked what I thought was now her favorite subject . Turns out it was math which before those two weeks had become a subject she deplored and refused to try anymore ! She enjoys all her subjects and is excited about learning, even piping into conversations to share things she has learned in school. I'm amazed at how she now comes up with ways to investigate a problem and if she doesn't quite get it can positively say "we're almost there" . My City School is a fantastic environment for learning and for the discovery of the value in multiple ways of learning. "If they don't learn the way you teach, then teach the way they learn" . MCS teachers are experts in this. We are so happy to have found them. Update December 2020 We are still so happy with MCS. My daughter has grown in amazing ways over the past year. She has vastly improved in each subject and, despite being online during Covid,, she still loves "going" to school. I wanted to add to my review to say what a spectacular job the MCS teachers have done adjusting to the new necessity of online school. Not a single day was missed as they were ready to tackle this new adventure on day 1 of quarantine. I've heard of no other school that has flowed so creatively and always able to adopt to what our children need. Despite being online , the children are still engaged with their learning and teachers adopting all kinds of ways to aid the kids to keep organized and to build relationships and connection . It is amazing. Kudos to the teachers for leading the way to make even online learning personalized and exciting and meeting our children in the way that they need for learning."
