Reviews of Cornell City & Visitors Center
"This place transformed a rainy camping weekend! Of course we were curious to know what the giant catapult (my son's take) was, but we got so much more information. The stories we were told, and not just about the log stacker, but about current businesses in town, including the still active paper mill, and Dylan's Dairy where we promptly went to eat, and the bowling alley, and... What an amazing place. Old hand-written ledgers, photos that are all worth taking in -- and all give you a wonderful take on the town as you drive around. To see my 12 and 14 year olds completely absorbed was fantastic. Thank you Cornell!"
"Highly recommended to stop in and check out all the great history."
"Located in Mill Yard Park which has jaw-dropping river views and is worth a visit itself, the Cornell Visitors Center is THE place to get a sense for the rich lumber heritage of Cornell, Wisconsin, the friendliest town we've visited in all of Wisconsin. Former Cornell mayor, Judy, staffs the Center and she is a treasure trove of fascinating history about the town and its key founders, Ezra Cornell (a huge benefactor of Cornell University in Ithaca, NY) and Jean Brunet (for which Brunet Island State Park is named and is just two miles away). The centerpiece of the Visitors Center is the Cornell Pulpwood Stacker which is in Mill Yard Park and is the only one of its kind in the world. Judy will be happy to give you the rundown on how the stacker kept the nearby paper mill running all year long. Whether you're hiking the Ice Age Trail, camping at Brunet Island, or riding the Old Abe bike trail, a detour to the Visitor's Center is a "must." If you're lucky, you might also meet Cornell Mayor Mark Larson, who is highly visible and justifiably proud of his town."
"The only remaining pulpwood stacker in the world is located in the Mill Yard Park, site of the Cornell Visitors' Center. Home of the Pork in the Park Festival in October!"
