Reviews of Psychiatric Institute and Clinic
"I see Dr Ladd and I think she’s very thorough. The nurse that also works for her is very good. I have nothing but good things to say about this place."
"Easily the most unprofessional and disorganized health facility that I have encountered. My foster son was referred here, and it has been an absolute nightmare to get the staff to refill medications that were prescribed by their own doctor. Every month they expect me make at 6 calls to try to get his meds renewed. They routinely allow his meds to lapse, making it impossible for him to attend school. They just don't care. They try to put all of their issues back on the patient. Today they told me that the problem is that his 2 meds have 3 different refill dates not taking responsibility for the fact that this was because THEY screwed this up by only refilling part of his meds on multiple occasions. If I could get him out of WISPIC, I would. Unfortunately he is a foster kid, so there is no other option. Please do NOT take your children here!"
"I have been going here for years.... and enough is enough. With behavioral health medication is key, and one of the most important tools used. Yet this clinic continues to ignore this, along with all the symptoms that come with behavioral health issues. While a patient here I have missed a entire week of work (at a job I was already being discriminated against for my behavior health issues), many tears, panic attacks, and very severe withdrawals due to my medication not being refilled. Then comes 2022 and 2023, where there is now a nation wide shortage on several medications necessary for people like me to function on a day to day basis. I was taking a trip out of country and called 2 days prior to running out of my medication for a refill (note: I must call the clinic every month for the refill as this is a controlled substance). I was told we like to have at least 3 days notice for refills. Again several symptoms of my behavior health issues cause me to forget, procrastinate, along with several other disfunctions; that make it difficult to remember, or honestly even build myself up just to make a phone call. These are all things that most people going to this clinic deal with. Yet I am immediately blamed for not calling in time. Two days later the clinic has not even looked at my request, or has and has chosen to ignore it. I call the clinic several times stating that I urgently need this prescription refilled as I am going out of the country very early the next morning. They assure me they send several urgent notifications back to nursing staff. Flash forward to 20 minutes before the pharmacy closes, and the staff have still done nothing. It takes the pharmacist calling the clinic 15 minutes prior to the clinic closing (mind you the pharmacy is now closed). The clinic puts her on hold until the overnight staff shows up, and passes the problem on to them. At this point I am balling my eyes out, as I fear I will have to stay home so I don't go through withdrawals during my vacation. The pharmacist eventually has to use her personal phone because they pharmacy is closed and the phone will no longer work. The pharmacist can see all the after the fact issues that are now being entered into the computer software, as a way to make this medication issue look entirely like my fault. My husband is also on the phone with patient care at this point. The clinic had the audacity to force me to make an appointment with my doctor, as if this was the reason the medication was not being refilled. (Note: It is $400 to talk to my doctor for less than 15 minutes on teleconference, just to say yup my meds are still good lets keep going.) Then my husband had the emergency after hours doctor on the phone who was attempting to get the prescription filled. This doctor insisted on talking to me because I had stated that I was going out of the country. This doctor then attempted to put scare tactics again, as if this was all my fault, stating that it can be illegal to bring this medication into another country. To which she asked which country I was going to, which I stated Canada, and she states well I don't know if its legal or not in that country?!?!?! To make matters worse, my insurance wouldn't cover the medication because it was the wrong type. I had no other choice but to pay full out of pocket just so I didn't withdraw on my vacation. I still have heard nothing from patient care, UW health, the clinic, or even my doctor. If this is my horror story, what is happening to others at this clinic? Mental health is ever rising and we deserve decent care, nurses, clinics, and doctors who understand us. Please if you or your child have mental health issues, DO NOT go here."
"DO NOT SEE DR. STOWE. Every single time I left an appointment with Dr. Zachary Stowe, I got to my car and immediately began crying. I had previously seen Dr. Moore, who was kind and understanding and seemed to seek to understand me. When he left the practice, none of Dr. Moore’s recommendations for a new psychiatrist were taking patients. I called the clinic and asked them to please recommend someone who was taking patients, and I got connected with Dr. Stowe. I saw him from January - June 2018. The moment I met him, I felt like he boxed me into a category of “mentally ill” and “addict,” and he did not see any of the qualities in me that make me human, so much beyond that which might limit me in certain areas (something Dr. Moore fostered in me). Dr. Stowe acted inappropriately in a sexist and diminishing manor. My job is something I very much love. Part of my job involves dressing up in wigs and futuristic outfits, and often 5 inch platform sneakers. We serve ages 7+ at my place of work. There is absolutely nothing sexual about what I do. When Dr. Stowe asked me what else outside of work I was doing for fun, I told him I was taking a pole dance fitness class with one of my co-workers. He said, “Oh, I get it, the wigs and the platforms and the pole dancing”. This insinuation that somehow my job where I work with children, and my fitness choice are somehow connected is inherently sexist in nature and quite frankly reprehensible. I am studying to get my PhD in psychology and I know quite a bit about medications and their effects. When I brought in a book that cited 27 studies about a medication he said was a reason for symptoms I was having after cutting another of my medication, his response was “and?” I explained to him that this book was by one of 5 international experts in my very rare condition of Depersonalization Disorder, Dr. Simeon, in NYC, who I had the privilege to see personally for intensive treatment in 2015, and the evidence from the book contradicted his prediction about how medication was affecting me (citing between 27 clinical trials and studies that this medication - seroquel - had 0 effect whatsoever on depersonalization symptoms). I could go on about Dr. Stowe’s demeaning comments and failure to meet me where I am as a patient and seek to understand me and some of my idiosyncratic symptomology, but I’ll end with this. When I pleaded Dr. Stowe to try to understand me and what I had been through when I was hospitalized in October 2017, he said “that’s not my job; it’s not my job to understand you”. His sexist comments, inability to be receptive to scientific studies, and clear delineation that he was not working to seek to understand me, are the reasons I will no longer be seeing him as a psychiatrist. Unfortunately Madison has a massive problem with quality psychiatrists who are not accepting patients, so I have paid out of pocket to see someone new. For the first time in a long time, I have not left the Dr’s office crying. Dr. Stowe may have justified reasons for adjusting my medications, however, there is absolutely no excuses for experienced sexism in a Dr.’s office, and working with a doctor who claims it is simply “not his job” to understand his patient."
"A huge well organized clinic! This is a great place for health care for children and adults. It's easy to find and has a huge parking lot for patients. Staff is highly professional. The front desk workers are super helpful and help you find where you need to go. It's a good atmosphere and set up."
