"They sent it straight to Collections. Did not send me a bill. It was only two and a half weeks."

"Showed up at wrong house. Female paramedic with a superiority complex ask me outside, where I was waiting for them, if the guy she sees walking inside is the patient. I said yes. (My son had walked maybe 2 ft.) she very sarcastically tells her cohorts that that guy is walking around. Then asks me why did we call the ambulance, I should have just driven him. Then they tell me the emergency won’t do anything. They’ll just send him home. I told them to transport my son, I don’t care what they think. My son is in end stage liver failure. Detoxing severely. People can go into seizures and die under these circumstances. The hospital didn’t kick him out. They did help him. I’m furious with the way we were treated by this crew."

"This company is very unprofessional. My son was transported by them and the paramedics made a comment about my son not knowing his illness. My son has a breathing condition that is very difficult to treat through medication. He has a condition called dysfunctional vocal cords which goes into a spasm and closes his airways and he can’t breath. He needs medication to control that and that is created by anxiety. One paramedic said well my son was going through this attack only because he wants his medication so he is faking this attack. After I heard this I am filing a formal complaint to the corporate office of this company. Please don’t allow this ambulance service to take care or transport your love ones. If this is how they treat people in distress they don’t belong in this line of service. This is unexcept able. Also the employees making this comment should be fired."

"I was transported in this ambulance company to a mental health hospital in Ventura about 2 months ago and BOTH of the EMTs were emotionally abusive to me and lied to the staff at the mental health hospital. But don't worry American Medical services my attorney will contact you after me suing your company for mental anguish thanks to your poor EMTs!"

"I was shocked to find that AMR billed me ~$8,000 for 2 ambulance rides requiring a total of ~70 minutes transport time. Blue Shield, as do many other insurance companies do not contract with many ambulance services. Therefore insurance companies consider many ambulance services to be "out of network". That being said, Blue Shield did pay ~ $3,200 of the total bill. According to my Explanation of Benefits (EOB), I had a personal responsibility to pay $200 towards the bill. AMR has repeatedly sent me bills for the balance of their total charges (~$5,000). This type of billing is called, "Surprise Billing or Balance Billing" Additionally, multiple attempts to contact AMR on the phone have been unsuccessful as their phone lines are always busy (Do you believe they might have additional unhappy customers?). I left a message and received a return call from them 1 month later. Lessons learned from this experience: Don't use an ambulance service unless it is absolutely necessary as a result of life threatening conditions. The "60 Minutes" TV program recently aired a documentary regarding this nationwide billing practice. AMR stands for American Medical Response. It should be named, American Medical Ripoff"!"
