About Us
Union South is a vibrant institution located at 1308 West Dayton Street in Madison, Wisconsin. Serving as the south campus living room, this university offers a wide range of amenities and activities for students and visitors alike. The building, completed in 2011, features a 350-seat movie theater, a recreation center with bowling, billiards, a climbing wall, and video games, an eco-conscious hotel, an art gallery, eight dining options, and various meeting rooms.
One of the highlights of Union South is Badger Bash, a pre-game celebration held before each home football game. This family-friendly event includes activities and performances by the UW Marching Band and UW Spirit Squad. The institution has also been recognized for its commitment to sustainability, receiving a gold LEED rating for its environmentally friendly design.
With over 1,000 events taking place each year, there is always something happening at Union South. Visitors can also stay overnight in one of the boutique-style guest rooms, dine at the on-site restaurants, or relax at the coffee/wine bar and recreation area. "Great time bowling! Not as crowded as I thought it would be considering It was a Saturday and on campus, had a great time. Parking connected to the building making it very easy to access."
"Stayed here 4 days. Shower head was clogged and I had to ask twice to get it cleaned. It was still a super weak shower even after cleaning. Found a roach in the bathroom first night. Carpet was pretty grungy. Front desk staff are friendly for the most part but most times they don't look up from their screens when you walk in or past them to take the elevator. That's a bit of a security concern. The most positive aspect was proximity to campus, clean sheets & comfy bed, and free parking with unlimited in/out privileges. We never did try the cafe for breakfast as they open too late (8 AM). Loved Indie Cafe 4 blocks away."
