Reviews of Village Montessori School
"I love Village Montessori School they are the best! Super profesional, they work with a lot of love and passional, my daughter LOVES going every morning"
"We love this preschool! Wonderful, caring and thoughtful teachers and a great facility: playground, basketball court, kitchen, shaded lunch area. Our son currently attends and can write his name at 4 years old. A well-rounded curriculum with music, art, science and of course reading and writing. We would recommend this school in a heartbeat to parents. They also have infant daycare on Jefferson Ave."
"We love VMS!! Village Montessori School started out for us as a matter of convenience. We had looked at a number of other Montessori schools in Carlsbad and Encinitas and ultimately decided to go with the one closest to home. With time, however, the tables have turned and it is VMS that has anchored us to this neighborhood. Proximity to the school is the prime reason we have not moved in spite of changes in jobs and a growing family. It's a pretty compelling place. Our son has attended since he was two years old and it has been wonderful to watch him blossom under the care of Ms. De La Cruz, Ms. T, Ms. Solana, and Ms. Seifert. There is no trademarking "Montessori," so any institution can claim to espouse the virtues of Maria Montessori's unique teaching philosophy. VMS actually gets it right. Montessori at its best fosters largely self-directed learning and teaches things like "life skills" and "grace and courtesy" in addition to taking a more intuitive approach to traditional domains like math and language (using colored blocks of distinct lengths and sand letters, for instance). VMS also has a variety of enrichment classes including sports, cooking, and arts and crafts. Mr. Matthews and his singing and instruments are a very popular Wednesday morning fixture. In this environment, before he could speak more than three-word sentences, our son was already learning how to set up his own work space and independently explore the wonderful and varied material the school has to offer (with gentle guidance from his teachers as needed). Over time, those skills have translated into a five-year-old who makes his own breakfast, is considerate about putting toys away, approaches the world with curiosity and a vocabulary littered with "how" and "why" questions, and also writes his name (on everything!), reads "Bob Books" with avidity, and counts and adds currency with a passion that rivals Scrooge McDuck. Our son is an all-day every-day student and whenever our work allows, we try and pick him up a little early (parental guilt and perhaps a bit of egotism leading us to think he would surely rather be spending time with us). On those occasions, he routinely shoos us away and asks if we can come back later because he is having a great time. It is rare to find a school where a child asks disappointingly, "why did you pick me up so *early*?" Parenthood can feel like a high-stakes gamble, particularly when it comes to trusting your children to an new/unknown institution. But trusting the teachers at VMS with our son is one of the best decisions I have made as a parent. We will be forever grateful for the love, care, and learning they have provided us."
