"Slostad delivered my last 2 babies and just recently helped me with my miscarriage and I’ve never had any issues with her. She’s very nice and understanding and she is thorough and she ran tests if I was every concerned about anything to ease my mind."

"I have been thinking about this for a long time and feel like I need to share my story for other moms getting care from Dr. Slostad. I was referred to her by my primary care doctor for my first pregnancy. At my first ultrasound with her I was 6w6d. She was very nice and personable. Dr. Slostad used a small ultrasound machine and was able to find the baby right away. I remember not seeing a heartbeat and regretting not asking about it, but she didn’t show any concern so I thought everything was great! When I was 11w2d I went in for my next ultrasound. She again used the same small ultrasound machine but this time couldn’t find the baby. She ordered me an ultrasound at a different location that same day. That evening, I got a call from Dr. Slostad saying that my baby was measuring “just under 7 weeks” and didn’t have a heartbeat. She said baby was gone shortly after my first ultrasound with her. I also had spotting at that time and was told my body was finally starting to process what happened and said she would give me a call the next day to see if I wanted to process it naturally or have a D&C. I decided to process it naturally and was not offered any kind of pain medication. I asked if they offer tests for future pregnancies and she said not until after your 2nd miscarriage. For insurance purposes, I ordered a detailed description of what happened at that 11 week ultrasound. I’m that report, I found out my baby was actually measuring at 6w4d, so the heartbeat was gone at that first appointment with Dr. Slostad. I feel that I did not get the detailed care that I (and everyone) deserves. I have since switched to a different clinic and provider all together. My new provider met with me to discuss the miscarriage and made a plan with me for future pregnancies. They even tested progesterone levels to rule that out as the cause of my miscarriage. I know there was nothing Dr. Slostad could do to prevent the miscarriage, however I feel that she should have caught it at the first appointment and offered me pain medication when I went to process the miscarriage naturally. I did not know what to expect about the excruciating pain and excessive blood loss that was to come. Again, I’ve thought about this a lot but feel like I need to share my experience for other women. The most important thing you can do with your care is advocate for yourself."
