About the Andres Pico Adobe Park
Andres Pico Adobe Park is a historic institution located at 10940 Sepulveda Boulevard in Los Angeles, California, United States. The park is a tourist attraction that offers visitors a glimpse into the rich history of the San Fernando Valley. Originally inhabited by the Fernandenos, Shoshonean Indians known for their basket making and peaceful temperaments, the area later fell under Spanish and Mexican rule.
The Adobe itself was built sometime between 1834 and 1860, with additions made over the years by various owners. In 1845, Andres Pico and Juan Manso were granted a lease for the San Fernando Valley, with Pico eventually purchasing a half interest in the land. The Adobe was modernized in the late 1800s by Catarina and Romulo Pico, adopted children of Andres, who added a kitchen and two wings.
In 1925, the Adobe fell into disrepair until it was purchased by Dr. Mark Harrington in the 1940s. Harrington painstakingly restored the Adobe, uncovering original mission tiles and preserving the historic structure. The property was later acquired by the City of Los Angeles and is now managed by the Department of Recreation and Parks.
Today, Andres Pico Adobe Park serves as a "living museum" operated by the San Fernando Valley Historical Society. The park hosts a variety of events, including monthly meetings, weddings, receptions, and cultural celebrations like "Rancho Days" and Las Posadas. The park also offers guided tours and educational programs to engage visitors in the history of the San Fernando Valley.
The restoration of the Adobe aimed to recreate the atmosphere of 1873, with original materials like adobe bricks and Mexican paving tiles used to preserve the historic integrity of the building. The park is a unique and valuable cultural asset, offering a window into the past of early California life and the diverse heritage of the region.

Reviews of Andres Pico Adobe Park
"The docents really know a lot about the history of the Adobe, and a lot about the history of the Los Angeles area. I was quite impressed. Thank you Buck for the very interesting and informative tour!"
"Great place to visit The best volunteers Thank you for all the information ❤️"
"Interesting, well preserved adobe. The old Lankershim Reading Room has been moved there as well. The Southern Pacific Railroad shanty is something I have never seen before"
"It's an incredible and very rare historic site. Rarely do you get to see the wealth of historical artifacts for the San Fernando valley and have those items be intact. The Adobe itself is beautifully preserved, although some changes had been made to the original structure it still has it's authenticity. Many thanks to the people who maintain this place."
"Nice park -slow down around the bend or you'll miss the entrance and getting back is not easy! The park is nice, small but full of history -it is also the HQ for the San Fernando Valley Historical Society. The adobe is very well kept but access is difficult -you can only walk around the premises."
