Reviews
"I would not recommend this school to anyone. Also beware their review numbers online as they are padded with 5 star reviews from employees - highly unethical. I enrolled my child in Kindergarten here thinking they would be treated with love, compassion and empathy. Instead they were treated with indifference at best. The amount of anger, judgement, criticism and retribution directed at a small child was appalling. 80% of the staff is in desperate need of training of how to deal with small children, starting at the top with the CEO and directors. But since the problems come from the top down, I see no hope for this school. EDIT: I read Thrive's reply and let me just say I have zero desire to ever see or speak to anyone from Thrive again unless they are ready to apologize for their abusive behavior. I wasted hours and hours listening to them talking, and they are full of nonsense words. Social emotional blah blah blah. You don't need all that complicated nonsense to deal with small children. All you need is love, acceptance and respect."
"Thrive Public Schools is an innovative, project based, nationally awarded charter school. I have two kids here and LOVE it. In addition to the exceptional teachers and staff, I am excited about the addition of the brand new campus opening Fall 2018!"
"I had the amazing opportunity of working at Thrive. Since moving out of San Diego I have found myself looking for a school that matches their caliber and dedication. They take time to invest in all of their teachers and students needs more than any school I have seen so far. While working at the 54th st. Campus they looked into the true needs of students and built individualized plans that would help them find success. They treasure each students social emotional needs, and teach their employees how to meet those needs. My daughter is getting ready to enter Kindergarten in the near future and I hope to find a school similar to Thrive where she can grow and learn."
"It pains me to write this review because I really wanted to love this school. I've had my kids across different campuses since fall of 2016. I'm currently scrambling to find a better option mid year because of extreme discipline issues. When your kids come home and tell you they're giving their teacher advice on how to handle the class, things have gone awry. Last year my 6th grader lost two teachers and was onto the third one by November. He got really behind in math. This year in fifth grade the kids lost their teacher after Christmas break. We were told it was because of personal medical issues with the teacher. That may be true, but I have no doubt it was related to the stress of dealing with all the discipline issues in that class. There is far too much disruption in the classroom and the handling of discipline is far too touchy-feely and horribly ineffective. I've had my kids at regular public schools and at private schools and have never encountered the kind of discipline and behavioral issues that run rampant at Thrive. While they're busy expanding their schools and adding campuses, their program is falling apart. I wish they'd stop doing what isn't working and find a new strategy. Like I said, I really wanted this to be my kids' school through 12th grade, but I cannot in good conscience continue subjecting them to the problems Thrive has."
"To have a bad experience at Thrive, there have got to be extenuating circumstances. My son is in gate and it's the only place that he can learn at his sped up pace and still feel part-of the group. Girls and boys from all walks of life can learn and play, wear close to whatever they prefer or according to whatever tradition they are a part of. It's beautiful. Mrs. Shay and Lorenza are who I've talked with most and it's enough to make me glad we came here"
