"This review is specific to the memory care unit. First and foremost, I'd like to commend the frontline staff--caretakers and nurses--who display genuine care for their residents. They work tirelessly despite the inherent challenges. However, I must express my disappointment with the management and administration. Their lack of transparency about what they can and cannot handle made the eventual transition for my loved one even more painful. My family entrusted our loved one, who suffers from dementia, to this facility. Unfortunately, their condition significantly worsened during their stay. While we understand and don't condone certain behaviors associated with dementia, it's crucial to acknowledge that they are not uncommon. Additionally, our loved one was on a carefully prescribed medication regimen by their in house doctor. Regrettably, their needs exceeded what this facility could provide, leading to our departure. It's perfectly reasonable if the facility is better suited for residents in earlier stages of the disease, however this should be communicated upfront. It appears that the management may prefer families who are less involved in their loved one's care. We were present nearly every day, assisting with laundry to alleviate the staff's workload. This level of involvement revealed some concerning issues beneath the surface of this outwardly beautiful facility. The Gardens is clearly understaffed in both Assisted Living and memory care. Furthermore, they no longer have dedicated staff solely for memory care, which is a significant concern for patients with specific needs and quirks. Dementia and Alzheimer's are complex conditions, and each individual requires tailored care. Unfortunately, advocating for your loved one and expressing concerns can lead to feeling unwarrantedly guilty. Our loved one has since been relocated to Silverado in San Juan, and the difference has been remarkable. Their doctor adeptly adjusted their medication, resulting in a notable improvement in behavior. The staff at Silverado is exceptionally experienced in caring for individuals with memory conditions, going above and beyond for every resident. We're not alone in our decision to move from The Orchards to Silverado, as other families have made a similar transition. If your loved one's condition is expected to remain stable, this facility may be a suitable choice. However, my family sincerely wishes that these considerations had been communicated clearly from the outset, enabling us to make a more informed decision. Regrettably, it became evident that business interests took precedence, making an already difficult time even more challenging for us."

"Kind and caring staff. Very friendly and helpful. Nothing is perfect, but this is about as good as it gets. Taking time to get ti know the staff really helps the experience. The interiors are clean, well taken care of, and new. Nice TV’s. Clean bath/shower rooms. Shared rooms have closets separating the residents, instead of curtains, which gives more privacy and a quieter space on each side. The food is actually pretty good. Modern tech details like EV charging stations outside are cool. The grounds with courtyards are beautiful. The drought tolerant landscaping is very nice. The view of the hills is relaxing. It makes you want to buy into Reata Glen, the independent living development associated with The Orchards. I swore I wouldn’t let my wife go to a Skilled Nursing Facility after our last experience with one nearby, and with my mom’s unacceptable experience in another SNF. The Orchards really is different, and was a very pleasant surprise."
