"I'm just saying like this is cute but don't go out of your way to check it out it's just kind of a nice thing to see if you happen to be in the area, the Little Creek is usually dry but the Palo Alto itself is a beautiful tree and definitely a historical landmark worth your time if you happen to be passing through."

"Informative sign/panel about the story of Palo Alto and the big trees in the area within the El Palo Alto Park. It was not clear to me if the pine tree by this sign was the original "Palo Alto", if that one was cut down long ago or if it was one of many. Although short and nothing to write home about it is nice to learn some history and enjoy a brief walk in this park. There are some parking spots to the northwest of here for a quick stop."

"This plaque - CHL No.2 - commemorates that in 1769 the Portolá expedition of 63 men and 200 horses and mules camped around here, near the "El Palo Alto", The Tall Tree. They had traveled from San Diego in search of Monterey but discovered instead the Bay of San Francisco. Finding the bay too large to go around, and deciding that Monterey had been bypassed, they ended the search and returned to San Diego. The actual tree - the "palo alto" is still standing....it's just a few steps over the footbridge."
