"I have been a parent at the school since 2002. My two older children attended Kindergarten - 8th grade, and my youngest is currently in 5th. While many schools see a child as a commodity or a dollar sign, St. Michael shows every child that he or she is a person deserving of dignity no matter where he or she is his or her learning. The teachers really care about their students, while maintaining academic rigor. We truly feel that the whole child is educated at SMS. Catholic school is the way to go!"
"My twins are in TK at St. Michael School. They are THRIVING! St. Michael School provides the perfect blend of education, community, and religion. St. Michael School provides a safe learning environment for all students. The school is filled with teachers and staff who Are welcoming and caring to all students and families. The low student to teacher ratio provides students more one-on-one learning time. They also have an incredible fine motor skills program for the young ones and a standards based Physical Education program for all grade levels- including TK. I am a public school teacher and I would recommend St. Michael School to everyone- the level of commitment that the teachers and the school as a whole have to making their students succeed is unmatchable."
"Our son is in the second grade and has been there since TK. TK teacher Mrs. Lessard is awesome after our the orientation with Mrs. Lessard we enrolled the next day. Kindergarten was another great experience. 1st grade was an adjustment but that was when the structure starts along with homework. Second grade is awesome. Mrs Hom communicates really well makes school fun but holds kids responsible. I like the smaller class when our son needs help we can address it right away. I have attended Catholic school 1st-6th and Catholic education in my opinion is a lot better. A lot of the stereotypes you hear about at catholic schools do not exist here at St. Michaels."
"My children are going here because it’s where I went. Class sizes are limited to 25 students and there is at least one aid for the lower grades. The older kids regularly go into the lower grades and read to and work on art and other projects together. It is a Catholic school first but they allow any denomination to attend. If you don’t want your children learning Catholic doctrine, this isn’t the school for you. The students attend one Mass a month and each grade takes a turn helping with the liturgy. There is one Sunday family Mass a month as well but this one is not required. In second grade, the Catholic students will receive their first communion. Older children participate in Reconciliation. There is a school wide, unified assembly and flag salute every morning; parents are welcome to stay. Families are required to complete 20 service hours. There are countless opportunities including: working on our two major fundraisers (Fun Run and Wine Auction & Gala), yard duty, class parents, Shamrock Bingo and Tabletop Luncheon fundraisers, helping in the classroom, and tons more. Our volunteer coordinator works with every family to find opportunities that jive with your interests and skills. The volunteering actually creates a sense of community and inclusion amongst the families. You will not be limited to only knowing the parents in your child’s class! Yes, there is a uniform. Honestly, this saves so many headache in the mornings. The before and after school care is second to none. It’s run by a woman who has been doing it about 30 years and she is great with the kids. Also, it’s exceptionally affordable and pay as you go so you won’t pay for days your child doesn’t attend. Choicelunch is offered on a daily basis. Every year, students are accepted to local private high schools like De La Salle, Moreau, Bishop O’Dowd, and Carondelet. Extracurriculars include but are not limited to: Science Olympiad, Boy and Girl Scouts, CYO sports, and choir. Older students are required to complete community service hours. I challenge you to find a perfect school. The families are exceptionally diverse and we are not all wealthy but we all want our children to succeed and it shows in our little community. Take the time to go on a tour and check it out."
"My child has been at St. Michael's for two years. We're very happy with the quality of education, the class sizes, the staff, and the community. My child is thriving academically and socially. I'd just like to address some previous reviews: 1. The uniform is navy pants, white polo, green sweater or sweatshirt. Girls wear may wear pants except on full uniform days, when they wear jumpers or skirts, with white polos and green sweaters or sweatshirts. 2. Students attend mass as a school about once a month. There are daily prayers in the classroom. They do not attend mass daily. 3. The school has families from a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds. There is some tuition assistance, some very affluent families, and everything in between."
