About the McCoy House
McCoy House is a historic museum and tourist attraction located at 4002 Wallace Street in San Diego, California. Originally built in 1869, the reconstructed wood-frame residence was home to Sheriff James McCoy and his wife Winnifred. McCoy, an Irish-born immigrant who served in the U.S. Army, was a prominent figure in the San Diego community, serving as county assessor, city sheriff, and state senator.
The house, designed in the Greek Revival style, features a columned front porch, shutters on the windows, and a white picket fence. It was renovated as part of the Old Town San Diego State Historic Park Entry Redevelopment project in 2000. State Park archaeologists excavated the site in 1995, uncovering valuable information about the property's history.
Visitors to McCoy House can explore the well-preserved residence and learn about its former occupants and the history of San Diego. Interpretive displays throughout the house provide insight into the lives of the McCoy family and the development of the area. Don't miss the opportunity to step back in time and experience a piece of San Diego's rich heritage at McCoy House.

Reviews of McCoy House
"Very artistic. A story and history telling environment that brings you back to the 1800. Met also a very nice guy that was working and didn't mind of me taking pictures."
"Small museum with nice narrators, they seem to enjoy the job and are willing to explain more of what they know."
"This place was very interesting, it's also free, a lot of history and it also has a restroom. When I went, there were 3 guys playing cards. They didn't even say hi or anything ... So who knows if they were suppose to give us some type of information of the place. But it was still good, we went ahead and saw everything in the small museum."
"Great little (free) history museum on San Diego and California."
"We just toured the McCoy house after it's renovation. This is an excellent small free museum that took about 30-40 minutes and gave a great glimpse into local San Diego history. Well done!"
