Little Sand Bay Campground

"This was an awesome little campground on Lake Superior. It was relaxing getting to sit on the docks and listen to the waves. The beach had nice sand that you could walk on for quiet a ways. There was a playground for kids. For camping they had water, dump station, bathrooms, showers, and electricity for every site."

"Little sand bay is a beautiful location. We’ve camped here several times over the last few years. The camp ground is well maintained with a nice large bathroom setup that is fairly central to the camp ground. The area is tucked back in the woods and has great views of the sunrise, set and stars at night over the water. Beautiful little beach and generally kind people camp there. There is little to no cell service out there but sometimes that’s the escape you’re looking for when camping :) staff is friendly, camp ground is inexpensive and I would completely recommend to anyone who is looking to camp in the area. Great for kayaking, canoeing or swimming as well."

"We tent-camped there for 3 nights and we're glad we did. The showers and the grounds were cleaned and well maintained and the hosts were helpful and friendly. Nice sandy beaches for swimming and kayak launching and beautiful sunsets. You can see the Milky Way at night, a welcome sight indeed. Plenty of fire pits and access to small maritime museum run by the National Park Service. Nice play areas too. There's also a small harbor protected by sea walls to tie up power boats. The closest island to kayak from camp is to is Sand Island where you can camp. We're flat water kayakers so we kayaked to the sea caves with an outfitter in Cornucopia about 15 minutes drive away. We loved them and the hiking trails above. Lake Superior can become dangerous on short notice and there have been deaths and serious injuries when people have gone out ill prepared or in conditions that even experts avoid. The hosts and the Forest Service employees can help you make informed choices. We'll be back."

"Showers are $2, and at one point one of the stalls was broken, and the other didn’t have hot water. A plumber came the day after the hot water went out. Then the quarter machine stopped working. There is no office, so if something’s wrong, you have to call or hope the hosts are at their site. There’s a decent beach across the street, and that’s the only good thing I can think of. No hiking paths within walking distance. Lots of flies and mosquitoes. The place really fills up on Friday. The camp sites are very close together, and they only provided one of the kind of outlet we needed for two campsites. But they sell converters. There are two pit toilets that smell awful. At least they’re free."
