Muller House Museum
About the Business
The Muller House Museum, located at 1542 South Beacon Street in Los Angeles, California, is a historic institution dedicated to preserving the past for the benefit of the future. Originally built in 1899 by Edward Mahar for his parents, the home was later purchased by shipbuilder William Muller in 1901. The house was relocated in 1912 to its current location on 19th Street and Grand Avenue, where it has been meticulously maintained and renovated over the years.
Designated as Cultural Heritage Monument #253 in 1982, the Muller House Museum was donated to the San Pedro Bay Historical Society in 1986 and opened to the public as a museum in 1990. The museum offers tours on the first and second Sunday of each month from 1 P.M. to 4 P.M., showcasing Muller family memorabilia, archival items, and contributions from personal collections that highlight San Pedro's history.
Visitors can enjoy the exhibits and learn about the rich heritage of the area while taking in the stunning views of San Pedro Bay from the museum's bluff location. Special group tours can be arranged by contacting the Archives at (310) 548-3208 or emailing sanpedrohistory@gmail.com. Donations of $3.00 per person are appreciated to support the ongoing preservation efforts of the museum. Don't miss the opportunity to step back in time and explore the Muller House Museum's collection of artifacts and stories from San Pedro's past.

"What a great historic home tour! Keep in mind, they are only open the 1st & 2nd Sunday of the month and for 2 home tours only per day. We took the 1st tour which started at 1pm sharp for a $5 donation per person. The home is perched on a hill over looking the beautiful views of the SP Harbor. The docent was friendly, knowledgeable, and filled with lots of interesting details & stories about the house's history as well as San Pedro and neighboring cities. She is a 4th generation San Pedro resident & a school teacher so she delivered a wealth of knowledge! If you enjoy historic homes and personal home tours, add this one to your list!"
"This was such a nice little historic house museum! Such a pleasant surprise. We're visiting the area and had just gone to the Maritime Museum before this. We noticed the banner as we walked by. The guided tour helped us contextualize the history of the area. It was a great experience. The three docents were knowledgeable and answered all our questions. Their appreciation for the building added to the experience. The house had some really cool stuff inside. Would recommend if you're in the area and interested in learning more about them people that contributed to the growth of the area"
"The Muller house is a hidden gem in The town of San Pedro, or Pedro, as the locals call it. It is listed as a historical site. It's built Victorian style, inside and out, with a great view of the port and the Pacific. The ladies who run the house are members of the historic society and are loads of fun to talk to. There is also a little give shop with great deals. You never know what you will find there. From figurines to framed paintings and the like, with some old timey toys. There is a small, some what awkward parking lot, to the east of the house, but there is street parking. If you are into port history, or just history, check it out. We go from time to time to see what they have and to list to the stories. Oh yeah look out for the special events."
"Historic home beautifully restored and maintained by the San Pedro Historical Society who give detailed guided tours about the houses origins, the families who built & lived in it and how it came to be on its superb bluff location. A lovely and informative visit to olde San Pedro."
