As the oldest standing residence in Los Angeles, this adobe home tells a story of the city's early Mexican and Californian heritage. My visit to the Avila Adobe was a step back in time. The well-preserved adobe house, with its thick walls and rustic charm, provides a sense of what life was like in the early 19th century. The authentic period furnishings and exhibits offer insights into the daily lives of the Avila family, who once inhabited this historic structure. "Avila Adobe is the oldest house still existing in Los Angeles. It's located in the historical district of Olvera Street, which once was the heart of the new city of Los Angeles at the time of Spanish domination. Visiting the interiors is free, so I recommend that you go inside and take a look. Everything is perfectly maintained and gives you a nice idea on the lifestyle of the early 1800s."
"Okay if you happen to be near downtown LA you should definitely come to this Adobe located near the famous Placita Olvera! :-) there is free admission to the Avila Adobe this is the oldest existing house in Los Angeles. Give me the belt about 1818 I don't own a villa and it was occupied briefly as American headquarters in 1847. It was severely damaged in the earthquake of 1971, the house is not restored as an example of California lifestyle in the 1840s!"
