"Matthew and crew: Thanks for restoring our very loved but extremely worn custom-built chairs back to their original pristine beauty. They look just as lovely as they did last century when the artisan made them. Your craftsmanship is impeccable. Thank you all for your attention to detail and for working with us to choose the fabric to bring our chairs back to life."
"I had a couple of my great grandfather's chairs reupholstered here. They did a really great job and in a timely manner. Everyone I dealt with was friendly and very willing to help answer questions. Price also seemed fair."
"The folks at Straight Thread are amazing! Excellent customer service, fair pricing, outstanding work, great communication and really fast. They finished the job two days earlier than expected. We wouldn’t hesitate to go back and highly recommend this business for any upholstery work or repair."
"I have a sorta hip, modern sofa that looks pretty cool, but construction is really poor. I think just about every button has come off. I brought it over each time one detached, and they made a much stronger repair than the original attachment. At most they charged me a few dollars, usually they didn't charge me anything! Super friendly and didn't seem put out at all. I will be back to have a different couch re-upholstered someday."
"I own a remarkable piece of furniture, a century old lodge hall chair, with a back about seven feet tall, which I bought from an Odd Fellows hall in Cambridge, Massachusetts about 50 years ago. It had the original upholstery which finally disintegrated. I live near the Straight Thread so I took a few photos and brought them into the shop. I also e-mailed the same photos to another upholstery shop a few blocks further south on Atwood Avenue. I knew that Matt, the owner of the Straight Thread, had studied upholstery techniques in Paris, so I anticipated that the price from Straight Thread would be significantly higher, but was astounded to be quoted a price that was about half that of the shop further away. I also asked about using fabric I might supply myself, and this was no problem for Straight Thread (if it was suitable for upholstery use), but the other shop said that they would charge me $20 a yard for "handling," or "insurance" or some other nonsense if I didn't use fabric ordered from them. So, I went with the Straight Thread, and the job they performed is absolutely perfect. They assisted with the selection of the new fabric and rebuilt the sagging seat and tattered back impeccably. I am so pleased that I have asked them to make a cushion to raise the seat a bit as our forbears, those "antique Americans," seemed to have been shorter than we are. All in all, it's a great job, and Matt and the folks at the shop are terrific to work with, being both pleasant and knowledgeable. This has been a very happy experience all around."
