Reviews of David R. Couillard MD - Roseville Urology
"I would give him zero points if I could. Dr Couillard is a pompous, condescending and arrogant man. He perfomed a very painful biopsy. Then he wanted to perform an open prostatectomy surgery and refused to refer me to UC Davis (National Cancer Certified Center of Excellence) for a second opinion or robotic surgery. He literally said when I asked him for a referral: " no, you're on your own there". He calls UC Davis Doctors "kids" and modern robotic surgery technology "toys". He appears very much interested in only doing open surgery himself. His office staff is friendly but rushed and cannot even transfer my chart within a day or so. Stay away."
"HORRIBLE. Dr. Couillard was running over an hour late. Entered the room but did not conduct an examination. He started talking about something completely unrelated. I tried to share my concerns and issues. He failed to look at the imaging I provided and just said my issue does not bother other people so it could not bother me! He conveyed a lack of empathy, making it clear that he had no use for my questions or concerns. The overall experience was not only unhelpful but also left me frustrated. Dr. Couillard's behavior, especially considering the delayed appointment and him trying to rush me out of the door, made me feel invalidated and unworthy of his time and attention."
"I recently had a physical and vasectomy consultation with Dr. Couillard on July 12, and I feel compelled to share my experience for the benefit of others considering his services. While the overall staff was friendly, I encountered some issues during my visit that raised concerns. Dr. Couillard informed me, without closing the door, that his operating table had a weight limit of 300 pounds, and due to my weight of 400 pounds, he had reservations about the safety of performing the procedure on his equipment. This information came as a surprise, and I expected such considerations to be communicated before my appointment, possibly during the vitals check or in a more private setting. What was particularly distressing was the lack of discretion in discussing this sensitive matter. I believe that such personal health information should be handled with greater confidentiality, and the open setting in which it was disclosed was inappropriate. Since my appointment with Dr. Couillard, I sought a second opinion from another urologist, who expressed surprise at the weight limit issue, raising questions about the communication and professionalism in my initial consultation. While Dr. Couillard waived the fees for the physical and consultation, I felt rushed and dismissed. Additionally, being directed to leave through the back door, despite having to walk around to the front where my car was parked, left me feeling discriminated against due to my weight. I hope this review provides insight for others considering Dr. Couillard's services. It's important to be aware of potential issues with communication, sensitivity, and privacy during your medical care."
"I am happy I read reviews before going in because I was mentally prepared for the experience I had with Dr. Couillard. The staff was kind and the Dr. was nice but there was definitely a lack of compassion and he did not entertain how I wanted a very life altering procedure done. I followed someone else’s review and went to Stanford. I suggest you do the same if you are going under the knife and want more options with your procedure."
"I should have read the reviews first. I was referred to this doctor from my primary, and because I like my primary and they have good reviews, I didn't think to check Dr. Couillard. The first time I went in, I had to leave work early and then had to wait 45 minutes because of some other patient issues they had to deal with. I went in for potential fertility issues stating that my partner and I wanted to try to conceive. One of his comments after this was something along the lines of "some people would consider it lucky to not be able to have kids." What kind of response is that?! After telling him I drink 2-3 bottles of water a day and could probably use more (I work in construction and it can be very physical and hot, and yes I did tell him this) his response was that I should drink less water. He also suggested I stop taking any vitamin supplements I take because they are a waste of my money. On my next visit, I waited 58 minutes after my scheduled appointment time because of some other patient emergency they were dealing with, while 3 others who came after me went in before I did. During the appointment, I had a very uncomfortable procedure done. I was told it was not that big a deal and there wasn't any special instructions for before or after (other than to take a single antibiotic) I later learned that I should avoid work, exercise and things like drinking alcohol and caffeine after. None of this was information relayed to me. After the procedure he goes on to tell me my test results came back in a non favorable way and that he can't do anything to help me and it would be a waste of time to see a specialist "sorry" he said very nonchalantly and then leaves the room with me bleeding and shaking while I'm trying to grasp the results he just told me. There were no discharge instructions and no idea what to expect afterward. Overall, do yourself a favor and go see a real doctor who understands health and compassion. Not some quack who's only still in business because of a lack of healthcare professionals. Always check reviews first."
