"My son now struggles with trusting medical professionals because of his experience with Dr. Prentice. In his words she made him “quite uncomfortable.” When Dr. Prentice entered the room, she first asked if we have any concerns. I told her he is very concerned about having his male reproductive organs checked (I had prepared him ahead of time for a provider suggesting the exam and explained the importance). She laughed and said she thought it was funny the way that I said that. She said we’ll talk through everything. I said “Okay, because we really stress bodily autonomy and I told him if he is uncomfortable with anything he has a right to say “no.” She said “we will talk through it all.” I felt at this point she was still pushing the matter. When it came time for her to check his testicles, he said he is not comfortable with it. I informed her that I had already discussed the importance of the exam and if he still says no, we’re not doing it. She proceeded to tell him why it’s important and said, “we’re not doing our jobs” if she doesn’t check him. She asked in front of him if anything had happened to him to make him feel this way. I felt this was completely inappropriate to ask in front of a child who may have had a traumatic experience. I said no and tried to take the attention off my son who was visibly uncomfortable and offered, “Something happened to me as a little girl.” I explained that at a very young age (about 7 or 8) my genitals were checked even though I expressed that I didn’t want to and I felt very violated. She said, “Well, you’re transferring that onto him.” I explained that we teach our children that it doesn’t matter if it’s a doctor or a family member. It doesn’t matter who it is. No one has a right to touch your body in a way that makes you feel uncomfortable. I let her know that we discussed the possibility of his father taking him to the appointment with a male doctor, and my son expressed that he’d be comfortable with that. She continued to explain that it was important because he could have a hernia at his age (age 9 and has no symptoms of a hernia). I felt she was extremely pushy about the issue which made me feel very uncomfortable. At one point after repeatedly making it clear he’s uncomfortable and we will not wish to proceed, she still out on her glove to inspect him which made me very tense and protective of my son. She also repeatedly spoke over me and throughout the visit exhibited a disbelieving demeanor as if my parenting was being questioned. Unsafe adults make others uncomfortable by ignoring social, emotional or physical boundaries or limits. Good boundaries help prevent abuse. My son deserves a provider who respects consent and bodily autonomy, one who will do no harm."
"It is kids friendly place. Front desk staff are so kind and handling every customer with care. Nurse practitioners in this facility are taking care of patients with care and kindness. This hospital has best doctors i have ever seen. They treat the kids with care and love and get to the bottom of the issue. I would highly recommend Great Destinations Pediatrics to parents."
"Dr. Prentice and Dr. Shepherd are both amazing doctors! I have been blessed to find a wonderful and great team at great destination pediatrics. Thank you all for your care and support. Sincerely, Shepard Davis"
"My boys have been coming here for the past decade. The level of care and kindness is not comparable. From the office staff, M.A’s to the doctors, they are all kind, welcoming and supportive. Dr. Shepherd has been our doctor, she educates and provides options for the parent to chose and she supports the choices you make without trying to sway your decision. I have been consistently happy with the level of service and care provided for the past 10+ years!"
