Reviews of Highlander at North Campus Student Housing
"The Highlander at NC experience is a very personal feat. Along, with a welcoming community accommodated by both maintenance and office members you can always depend on staff to be approached with unrivaled competence and integrity. The interpersonal relations here only play sidekick to a well oiled machine. If you have any questions I personally recommend reaching out to the leasing office and ask for either Miss Daija or Miss Shea and they will help you with all housing related questions. The two are proud and pleased to help always as it may relate to leasing inquiries or anything regarding life here at Highlander at NC! So far my experience has been warm and bright here, even on cloudy days you can expect a little sunshine while you prepare for your next chapter in life. Thankful for each moment!!"
"Lived here for 2 years, apartment was dirty and gross when I moved in with cat hair in the room and bathroom and cat food in the food cupboards. It was just never cleaned before I moved in. The furniture they use to furnish the apartments is all cheap, my bed was so loud and creaky. If you are seriously considering living here, make sure you check out the actual room first and make sure it is cleaned and what you expect. The apartments constantly have ant and cockroach problems and when you ask the front desk it takes them a week to have anyone come check it out. The front desk people are also very rude. The only plus I can give is that the maintenance workers are nice and welcoming and always fix any issues they can within a timely matter. They also kept my $350 deposit and charged me $65 extra for cleanup fees when I left my apartment as clean as I possibly could and 10x as clean as it was when I moved in. Throughout my time here I had 4 different roommates and 3 of them were not even students. So if you want to room with other students at UCR look elsewhere. I do not know if I was just unlucky either because these 3 roommates were very inconsiderate and would use my stuff, be loud and stay up all night, and not clean up after themselves. I would also look to get a PO box or something of the sort as my packages would constantly get stolen here out of the package room. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND LIVING HERE!! LOOK SOMEWHERE ELSE."
"If I could give zero stars I would, but it is unfortunately not an option. The amount of neglect their management treats residents with is astounding, from not being willing to help out when packages get stolen and instead only worrying about the fact that they’re not liable because contracts were signed, to not being willing to increase security measures when multiple cars are getting broken into. There’s no security cameras on the top of the garage parking, within two months of me being there, there were two different cars with windows shattered that got broken into. Not to mention to consistent failures with the gate that would allow homeless people to camp out around the complex. I was told when I moved in the apartment had been “professionally cleaned” which was just a blatant lie. I’m an avid cleaner and kept my place as clean as possible with the help of one of my roommates, despite the other two being messy. I have videos with time/date/ location stamps of me dumping the cleaning solution I used when cleaning, and it took three go-arounds for the water to not be close to black. I spent time cleaning my room, bathroom, and the portions of the common area I utilized, (we took pictures of the cleanliness and how we left it because we didn’t trust management with the deposit and I couldn’t be there for a walk through) and lo and behold despite me leaving the place cleaner than it was when I moved in, I am being charged for carpet cleaning, bathroom cleaning, and common area cleaning. I also had to unclog about a pound of hair from my shower drain when I first moved in so that my shower would work properly, and they led us to believe a shower curtain rod was part of the bathroom when it was not. It was continuously very frustrating when one of my roommates bedroom doors locked itself on her and she got locked out, we called and called the number provided for lockouts/after-hour problems, left maybe five messages, and we didn’t get a response at all even the next day (when the office was open) it took us going into the leasing office for them to tell us “they’d check and see if the number was working”. I never felt safe or respected here, it just felt like an insane ripoff. They clearly have no system whatsoever when it comes to preparing for new residents, as my roommates room condition when she first moved in was so bad she couldn’t move in when expected. They had to replace her carpets (to get rid of some sort of stench), and repaint her walls. This clearly goes to show they are not to be trusted about any sort of “professional cleaning” they have done as they weren’t even aware of the condition this room was in. The only positive from this experience was the maintenance men, they were an absolute blessing and were always a huge help."
"If I could give zero stars for value I would EXCEPT for the maintenance crew, who is 5-star all the way! Incredibly helpful and conscious, honestly the only good thing about my daughter living there! To start the apartment was filthy when she moved in. Common area disgusting, 2 of the 4 rooms already occupied and those roommates were slobs and dirty. Her room was somewhat clean but the walls were dirty and when we tried to wash them with a wet rag the paint came off! Carpet had to be vacuumed at least 3 times to get all the hair and dirt, baseboards weren't wiped down and bathroom was in fair condition but cabinets not wiped out! Now that she has moved out the complex is charging her 1. A carpet cleaning fee! 2. A common area cleaning fee and 3. A bathroom cleaning fee! We have the pictures! She left the apartment in better shape than it was when she moved in, This is a corporate structure taking advantage of college students and I find it appalling!"
"This place is TERRIBLE! I lived here for two years and it’s just awful. Please note they offer free coffees from Starbucks for good reviews lol. First of all, my apartment got broken into by homeless guys climbing down from the roof because the management team refuses to fix the front doors. Our window to the patio was broke and my roommates bike was in the process of getting stolen before my roommates and I woke up from a loud bang of them jumping down from the roof, they ended up running when they heard us. The door to building 1 gets broke every other week, the gate didn’t work for months as well. Homeless people all over and they can just get easy access because Highlander north doesn’t care. There’s dog poop and pee everywhere, the place is only clean the weeks leading up to move out/ move in. Packages also got stolen and they decided to chain the backdoor and changed the gym hours which was also a joke. Over the past like 8 months living there the gym was only opened during office hours or closed down for remodeling. They offered a 24 hour gym when I moved in which just isn’t the case, most of the machines/weights were broke for 4 months before they did anything about it too. Also my girlfriends car window got broke by another homeless guy and he stole a box out of there (luckily nothing valuable) we talked to Britt (the leasing manager) about it and Britt just said they aren’t responsible and we signed a contract that stated they have 0 liability to any damages. Offered 0 help to us. The elevator has never been inspected, instead of where the elevator inspection certification should be they promote renewing your lease lol. The elevator in building one makes a loud noise almost everyday and has never been addressed. The walls are also paper thin, you can hear everything from neighbors. Then when I moved in, the living room wasn’t cleaned and my roommates had stuff everywhere. Also the front desk team say the same thing to everyone on the move out inspection “your carpets need cleaned and we need to touch up the wall paint” even though the wall paint was terrible when I moved in. Not to mention I still haven’t received my security deposit when they said 7-10 to business days… It’s been 14 already. Not surprisingly with this place. The only bright side of this apartment is maintenance team, they are the nicest people and will fix anything in a timely manner. That’s it. I seriously wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone, especially with the lack of security with so many homeless people everywhere. Also don’t expect them to help out if anything goes wrong, they will just turn their back to you."
