Reviews of Lake Calavera Hiking Trail
"Calavera Lake is such a beautiful area, loaded with rabbits, ducks, rattlesnakes and lots of trails. Some of the trails are not level and can be kinda steep. Going to the top of the volcano plug is quite a hike because there can be some narrow paths with loose gravel. Make sure you take plenty of water because it gets very hot and there isn’t much shade. If you’re taking a dog make sure to take water for it also and poop bags, always clean up after them. Oh and watch out for the rattlesnakes."
"Hiking with friends is a blessing. This hike has beauty and it can be tough going up through the rocks but it was fun. Just watch out for the snakes since it's hot they love coming out to sun. Make sure you bring water and I suggest start early before it gets hot."
"Nicely maintained park. Trails leading around the lake as well as to overlook spot on hill. Gorgeous when the sunset light hits the rocks. It is quite popular especially in the early evening hours. I'm surprised they don't have a public restroom when there are so many families visiting! It's nice to walk toward to open field more southeast of lake."
"Beautiful hike, at the moment there are some parts closed off due to flooding but for the most part it's a great easy (well easy for frequent hikers) spot! Also there are tons of roadrunners out on the trail right now along with other adorable critters. Just be aware of rattle snakes!"
"It was a rewarding hike with great views. When one gets to the top of the mountains, one can see wild flowers such as the California poppies. Trails are not well marked so having All-Trails app helped. At one point, it was a steep and narrow slope with rocks - a bit scary. Please respect the wild habitats and stay on the narrow path. DO NOT step on the flowers!!!"
