"All recent 5 star reviews are probably for some promotion for a Hilltop water bottle or something. Management was a mess from start to finish. Everything in the apartments looks new but breaks all the time. Maintenance is disorganized and will come three times for the same work order. One woman in the front office staff is rude and dismissive — don’t count on them to work with you to solve your issues. You’d think that paying x2 rental prices for a mediocre apartment would at least get you good customer service and a hot tub without algae in it. BTW, as some reviews mentioned, they will steal your deposit. Dealing with Hilltop issues will not end after you move out. For the next three months after moving out, you will have to make getting your deposit back a priority. You can find better housing elsewhere. The Hilltop water bottles are not worth signing a lease here."
"Love living here! My unit is super spacious and cute. Love all the natural lighting. Monica, Lori and Carmen were super helpful during my move in process. Sergio was helpful with my work order. I can't wait to sign for next year."
"Overpriced and cheap living. Poor quality everything. The paints in the apartment chip so easily with time. Rent for two rooms 1 bathroom is $4,100 not including utilities and The rooms are the size of my arm spand. They aren’t responsive to pest control issues. They make you contact them through the portal yet are unresponsive. Been waiting for them to do something about the silverfish in the bathroom for a year. They added security so you can’t use the amenities you pay for past 10pm. They push you to renew your lease even if you don’t respond to their emails. Stay away from here at all costs. Not worth the headache."

"Housing in SC is hard to come across but I highly recommend anyone looking find alternatives (like an actual human renting out a room or apartment) to this poorly managed complex. Trust the many 1 star reviews written about this place! The Hilltop apartments is managed by a company called Greystar which is a truly greedy and incompetent corporation who treats tenants horribly. A few issues include: - Laundry machines constantly broken, leaking, out of order for misc reasons - Overcharging utilities (specifically water and sewage) for unclear reasons and no transparency. When asked, the staff blames the third party company they use to set up the utilities instead of taking any ownership that this is their responsibility to figure out and properly bill tenants. - Office phones go straight to voicemail so you can never call to get a hold of a person. Only respond sporadically to emails, so the only way to get anything done is to physically go in person. - The staff actually on site are "assistant managers" so any real issue gets punted to "management", who is in another state and stays uninvolved with tenants. This allows the on-site staff to get away with not properly addressing issues, they can say "management is working on it". The main person in the office is rude to tenants (also written about in many other reviews here). - The worst offense is that they forced many tenants out of their apartments this summer to renovate so they can raise rents by $1200+. The units were all already extremely outdated, but their renovations are just cosmetic changes and will not address things like the paper thin walls, poor plumbing that others have written about. Their misleading actions forced many tenants who couldn't afford such an extreme rent hike out of their lease early to scramble to find housing elsewhere, especially given the increases are upwards of 50%+. I believe they are marketing hard towards students since students are willing (granted without much choice) to put multiple people in a bedroom to lower the cost per person, therefore driving out working professionals/retirees in the areas who are looking to have a bedroom of their own."
