Reviews of Hillcrest Apartments
"I regret to say that my experience with the community has been exceptionally disappointing, warranting a one-star review. The management, particularly Sylvia Aguilar, has demonstrated a lack of professionalism and helpfulness. My interactions with the leasing office were marred by unhelpful staff and a manager, Sylvia Aguilar, who not only failed to provide assistance but also exhibited rude behavior, including shouting. This level of discourtesy and unprofessionalism has significantly impacted my perception of the community. I am disheartened by the overall quality of service and the negative atmosphere created by the management. It is my hope that this feedback serves as an opportunity for improvement and reflection on the part of the community"
"The only good thing about these apartments is the location. Management is terrible and will try to charge you for anything that breaks. Mailboxes are constantly getting broken into so get used to picking up your mail at the post office. Also beware when you move out they will try to keep your deposit and add extra fees, then threaten to take you to collections. I’m happy to be gone from this place!"
"Garbage is $200 per Month, since they have the workers here who are constantly throwing wood and whatever they fix in the garbage. Also, our mail box has been broken for 6 months and no update on repair. Just drive by the mailbox, and you can see for yourself. (3rd time in a year they break into it) The new leasing office lady is more worried about handing paper clips on all the doors instead of answering all the emails we send her. There is black mold all throughout the building that they just patch up in pieces, paint over it or just put white plaster to cover it. They charge you a cleaning fee yet I never see anyone cleaning. The workers will repair wood and leave Nails all over the ground, so you are likely to get one in your tires at least twice a year. The worst part is the new leasing office lady who will send you 10 rent reminders, a week before, and to the days leading up to your rent. If you are late, they charge $50 late fee plus $100 attorney fees (what attorney I don’t know)"
"Here are a few tips of you plan on moving here. 1. Take pics all over your unit when you are moving in (bc they will try to blame things on you when moving out) 2. Only communicate via email. So everything is documented. 3. If you pay your rent by check take a video and pic of you putting it into the box (bc they will try to charge late fees) 4. Be aware if you are on a bottom unit, there will be plumbing problems bc the building is old and they WILL CHARGE YOU FOR IT. Ask any plumber they will tell you about stacked plumbing. 5. Most people lie about how many people live in their unit bc all charges are by how many people live there. They will advertise cheaper rent but for 2 people I would pay 140 for trash. 50 for water, you will have misc charges and sewer charges too. So add 300+ to the rent they tell you. The more people that live in the units that management doesn't know about will make your bills go up. Example. People upstairs from me had several people living there but only listed one. The more water he used the more the water bill would be bc its a shared meter. If a unit is vacant then you guessed it, you pay more in garbage. Management is terrible. Staff changes monthly bc of poor upper management. You will be charged for maintenance calls (even if its not your fault). 50+ dollars each fix you need. For the current tenants I encourage you to reach out to BAY AREA LEGAL. They will tell you what is legal and not legal. ( They do a lot if illegal things here)If you make over the income for bay area legal they will direct you to several companies that will advocate for you. Also be advised to not pay the extra stuff they will charge you for, just pay your rent and bay area legal will help you file with the small claims court. It's easier than we all think. Now for the apartments. The air conditioning barely works. Garbage disposals smelled so bad. Appliances will break down often. The dryers dry only if you run them on 2 cycles. You will get ants often. Mailboxes are often broken into and it takes them months to fix. It's happened 4 times since I've been there and it took 3 months of having to go to the post office on Santa Clara to pick up mail each time. Since I was there in 2019 there was 7 property managers so don't expect anything to get done. Alex is a nightmare and according to previous staff he is best friends with Michael mc(something) who is the president or vice president of tishau group. Previous staff said a lot of negative things about those two. The list of problems goes on and on. If you are struggling reach out to the other yelpers bc they want to work on filing a bigger lawsuit. And make sure you get a copy of the lease you sign. They lose them frequently! Also, be advised they cannot charge you for painting if you did not damage any walls. Ask your advocate or lawyer."
"By far the worst place to live. They will charge you a ridiculous amount for garbage. Maintenance calls. The building is old and you can hear through the walls. Management sucks. I can't wait until my lease ends. Mail is always stolen. Don't move here. The positive reviews are made by staff."
