Reviews
"Long overdue review: I lived at Vanguard for two years. Management is awesome and the apartments are spacious. :) Parking can be tough sometimes but it's nice being at the bottom of Ascot Drive. Apt complex is quiet, clean, and well-managed! 5/5 highly recommend."
"Personally, I've enjoyed living at Vanguard. From what I've heard, the previous landlord did not do a good job maintaining the complex, but the current landlord has been great! Very responsive if something is wrong in the unit. It is an older complex so that is something to be aware of, but the grounds are very well maintained and the rooms are pretty big. There's a bus stop within walking distance from the complex that goes directly to campus, which is pretty convenient if you're a college student but don't own a car. It's also located next to Rheem Shopping center which has pretty much all the stores you're going to see in Moraga (Minus the Safeway area which isn't that far either). I would just be careful with parking if you do own a car as street parking can get crowded in the evenings during the week."
"This has got to be the worst place I have ever lived. On the plus size, I will say that the apartments are roomy, but that is about it. The grounds - there is a big pile of dirt with a bunch of weeds growing out. Also an area of dead flowers. The grass is dead in much of the area. The apartment - the dishwashers are really old. You have to totally clean your dishes before you put them in. So what's the point. Also, someone didn't measure the stove right, so there is a drawer that doesn't open. In the bedrooms, one of the walls is a patio door - given that the other wall is the closet, it doesn't give you much room to put your stuff. The noise - It is noisy all night, especially on the weekends. St. Mary's kids have parties, and they go well into the morning. They have no regard for being in common areas of the building. The parking - If you only have one car, you are okay (most of the time). There is a little side parking, but it is usually filled up by 4:00. The street parking is terrible. Not only is there not enough of it, but many of the St. Mary's students don't know how to park, so they are taking up more than one space on the street. And if someone takes your spot, unless it is between 9 and 5, don't expect the manager to do anything about it. Many times we would come home late at night, and someone would be in our spot. The smell - if you want a contact high from marijuana, this is your place. Not only that, there are many ethnicitys here, all with their windows open, and the smell from the food does not mix well. Pets - it says in the lease that pets are not allowed, but I can tell you many of the residents have pets. And finally - you have to pay the complex for gas. So if you are the type of person that doesn't need the heat, you are still going to get screwed because you have to pay for the heat in everyone else's apartment. In all my years of owning a home, I have never paid as much for gas as I have here"
