Reviews of Northern Tool + Equipment
"I bought a softwasher from them in November. I opened it in March to set up, when I realized that the 13 gallon tank does not get fed water. That means I have to fill it up every 3 and 1/3 minutes. It takes hundreds of gallons to clean a house, which makes it basically unusable. I do not know why any store would sell such a useless product. This cost me $670. When I tried to return it they said since the 90 day period was up, I could not get a refund or store credit. I had a receipt and warranty on it. Still they said after 90 days the receipt goes out of the system. If it broke and I needed it fixed, then how would they be able to tell I paid a warranty. The whole thing is just unprofessional."
"This is the worse store to purchase from more than 10 times now shows product availability and go there, they don't have or order online and though take funds out of account they cancel over 24 hours later that they don't have inventory. Then other times their website will show they carry something, go there they haven't even received at their store but will show numerous available for pick up. I will never shop at store again. It's understandable that they barely have any stores in area. Go to harbor freight they know how to make sure items are available and know how to run a business"
"I placed online order for large glass fireplace door which did not fit my fireplace. I tried to return the product, but Northern tool will not let me return it to them and they advised me to return it to the manufacturer which was in another state. The cost of shipment was estimated to be hundreds of dollars. The manufacturer refused the return of the product too. I ended having the product sitting and I ended purchasing the right size of the fireplace door. I lost my purchase money, and I have a product that I do not know what to do with it. The customer care was not helpful at all."
"I recently purchased the Powerhorse 8 ton electric log splitter. I picked it up, brought it home and opened the box the same day. After following the assembly instructions, I got to the point of filling it with hydraulic fluid. When I unscrewed the cap the entire tank was filled with rust. They will refund (but with exceptions). But the issue is I have to bring it back, total of 3 hours of additional driving (not to mention the time I initially spent picking it up in the first place). The item is about 180lbs and packaging is a partial crate that was steel banded(item being fully enclosed in thick cardboard). To transport it back in original packaging will be extremely difficult. I was specifically told by customer service that it is the customers responsibility to perform quality control and inspect all items before leaving the store… this being said they told me that next time I order the replacement, they would expect me to fully unpackage and assemble the log splitter at their store location before I take it home, in order to ensure that the quality of their sold product is as advertised(new)… this means they will always expect you to bring all of your own tools to assemble any purchases as well as spend an hour instore putting it together before you can confirm that the product is up to standard. Not to mention they neglected to acknowledge that once it is assembled, it will be far more difficult to transport that in the original packaging. I am extremely disappointed in this business model and lack of communication. There is no evidence of this need or expectation listed anywhere on their website. Never did I expect to need to open and Inspect newly purchased tools while at a store (including large special order freight items) like what you do to produce at a grocery store… I was intending on spending several thousand dollars on other spray equipment this spring (since I am a small business owner/sole operator) but now I am extremely hesitant based on this experience. Lost time is lost money, and I have already lost plenty of time because of this which still isn’t nearly resolved. I refuse to spend thousands of dollars and then an entire day at their store trying to assemble sprayer equipment, inside their store, just to personally inspect it to ensure the quality of product that they claim they are selling. Knowing that what I buy could also have manufacturing issues for me to then spend hours dealing with the same issue over again. I highly recommend hesitancy with purchasing large equipment tools with Northern Tool. Unless you are willing to jump through hoops and spend hours of inconvenience."
"Purchased a trailer for a golf cart on 6/12. First trip tire popped 25 miles of home, got tired replaced. 7/6 took a second trip within 33 miles of our home other tire popped, both times fenders were bent. Took it back to the company. Zach the manager said he would not help us because based on his experience we put too much weight on it. Trailer has a weight capacity of 1600lbs and golf cart weighed 1023 lbs (we were assured by sales associate trailer would meet our needs). He said he had no way to confirm weight of golf cart. we offered to bring golf cart and owners manual to the store and he said it wouldn’t be necessary. Called customer service and told we had to deal with store or regional, first regional I called stated he had not worked for company for two months. Second regional is out of Georgia and said he was the wrong person, but would get a hold of the right regional it’s been seven days and no response."
